Wednesday 12th June at 4pm AEST will also see the band launching a treasure hunt at their brand new site partytimesahoy.com for the songs from their record. Essentially, the Pirates got pretty much black-out drunk to celebrate the end of the mixing and mastering process – and lost the masters – so now, they need the internet’s help to find the clues to the trail to find the record so that it can be released intact on Friday August 23! Punters need to sign up at the site in order to be fed clues as to where they might be able to hear more of the record on the pirate’s journey to August 23…

Dig, Bury, Drink!, the first cut from the band’s third studio album has Captain Gregarggh singing, “Rum on every island, our best idea yet / No matter where we sail, the party is set”, boasting to listeners all across the lands of the seven-piece party pirates’ mantra. The party horn will be sounded Tuesday 11 June – when triple j’s The Racket will spin the track loud and proud.

Captain Gregarggh, The Majestic Beast, Neil Rummy Rackers, Mother Junkst, Jacob, The Fiercest Pirate in all the Caribbean, Lucky The Great and Rusty Timbers make up Lagerstein, and this fearsome band of buccaneers unveil their new single just in time to unleash it on the crowds of Europe’s renowned Sabaton Open Air and Wacken Open Air festivals.

The wait is now over with the band returning with a triumphant new single, ‘Hold Your Nerve’, their first new music since the release of the soon to be platinum, #1 ARIA album, Limit of Love (2015).
Along with the release of ‘Hold Your Nerve’, the five-time’s ARIA winners have announced their global tour beginning with headline shows in Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney in August then shows in North America, UK and Europe. After the most tumultuous period of the band’s lives both personally and professionally, ‘Hold Your Nerve’ is an upbeat, optimistic song in which the group channel their trademark penchant for organic, seventies sounds into one of their most direct, modern and addictive songs to date.
Produced by Boy & Bear and Collin Dupuis (The Black Keys; Lana Del Rey) and mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Amy Winehouse, Beck, Adele), the single is the first taste of their fourth studio album penciled for a release later this year. Even though on the surface ‘Hold Your Nerve’ charts the story of front-man Dave Hosking and his current partner’s failed first attempt at their relationship, dig deeper and it reveals the backdrop of a debilitating illness front-man Dave Hosking has been dealing with since 2011.

Showing early symptoms of exhaustion – Dave was initially misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and then depression and anxiety. The symptoms soon intensified to include cognitive issues which robbed Hosking of the ability to piece together lyrics and write songs. Hosking’s struggled whilst writing and recording Limit of Love and as his health continued to decline he noticed a deterioration in his eyesight and a constant ringing in his ears.

After working with a myriad of specialist’s, hope came in late-2015 when doctors detected a gut bacterial issue that has been poisoning his nervous system. Medication and a radical alteration of his diet offered minor improvements, to the point where he could commit to touring Limit of Love. By the end of the cycle, however, Hosking had deteriorated further.
For an act at the peak of their career, with a #1 album in Australia and selling out venues such as the Hordern Pavilion and Riverstage, the band made the decision to take 2017-18 off the road to give Dave time to focus on his health. it was a decision fraught with uncertainty and anxiety. But there was no question that Hosking’s wellbeing was the priority. Whereby Limit of Love was written collaboratively, the band spent months of 2017-18 trying out new writing ideas as Hosking rode an emotional and physical rollercoaster.

Dave made significant progress during this period when he was introduced to a new treatment, called Faecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT). Also known as a stool transplant, FMT is the process of transplanting faecal bacteria from a healthy person into a recipient. His donor, Harry was brought to Nashville for the writing and recording of the new album.

Prior to the FMT treatment, Hosking had been unable to conjure lyrics or remember melodies long enough to put them to use. For the first time since recording Limit of Love, he experienced enough relief to allow him to contribute to the songwriting sessions for the new album.
While Dave’s health remains a work in progress, both he and the band can finally look to the future with optimism. ‘Hold Your Nerve’ is their first step back into the light.

United by a shared passion for the music of Charlie Haden, they first collaborated at Mofo 2018 in Hobart, performing a freewheeling tribute to Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra to sell-out crowds.

Hein Cooper has been touring the world for the last 3 years (mostly alone), driving many late nights from one city to the next for each show. Often packing the car full of his gear, clothes along with various odd snacks and activities he loves to have and do when touring.

• Organic food and drinks – I don’t want chemicals in the stuff I’m putting in my body.

 

• Beer and Kombucha – Sometimes I want to drink booze and sometimes I want to drink something healthy. I’m usually bouncing between one or the other.

 

• A window looking out on a park or some kind of beach – That’s the peaceful energy right there and it comes in handy staying focused on the right vibe when performing.

 

• I really appreciate a separate bathroom in the greenroom – I’m one of those weird people who can’t go unless I’m alone. Or I have to be really drunk!

 

• Dice – There’s a couple of games I’ve learnt on the road that involve dice and they’re great. One called ‘Little Maya’ and another called ‘Liar Dice’. ‘Little Maya’ can end with a terrible hangover though so that’s only for special occasions.

Conrad Sewell, The Forum Melbourne

No stranger to the stages of Coachella and Madison Square Garden, Conrad Sewell’s largest and possibly his most personal headline tour wrapped on Friday the 7th of June at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre. The tour coincided with the release of his highly anticipated debut studio album LIFE – a deeply intimate account exploring personal battles, self-sabotage, and redemption.

The Brisbane boy, now based in Los Angeles, was joined on tour by another Brissy-based artist Hazlett. Described as “Kings of Leon on valium” the softly-spoken singer-songwriter performed a small set including Fireworks and a breezy rendition of You’re The One That I Want from Grease which won over the crowd.

Wearing his heart quite literally on his sleeve Conrad Sewell kicked off the main event with Changing – the emotional lead single off LIFE. Indeed, as the final night of the tour, the whole evening had an emotional overtone and unbeknownst to the crowd, Conrad had lined up a couple of special surprises. To celebrate the album’s debut at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, Conrad flew guitarist Matt Copley’s mum down from Brisbane to celebrate. The other surprise came later in the evening when Australian sweetheart Delta Goodrem joined Conrad onstage for a duet of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide.

Between the surprises, Conrad took the crowd to church with his soulful falsettos and profound lyricism best demonstrated on the songs Remind Me, the autobiographical Big World and Love Me Anyway. As Conrad took a fleeting recess, Martin Luther King’s voice resounded through the speakers and while the sentiment was lost on a handful of Millennials, the speech resonated with most and acted as a trick of misdirection allowing Conrad to sneak into the crowd wearing a black hoodie and appear at the sound desk for a performance of Testify.

When it came time to perform Kygo’s multi-platinum global hit Firestone Conrad opted for a stripped back approach keeping on tone with his album’s “no bells or whistles” approach. The evening concluded with the reflective Start Again – winner of ARIA Song of The Year in 2015, and the uplifting hit Healing Hands. Never one to shy away from admitting his personal imperfections Conrad Sewell sure knows how to craft powerhouse ballads and stage the kind of next-to-perfect performances that leave the audience with renewed admiration for home-grown talent.
