1. Forming in early 2015, Geelong’s own Amberyse wasted little time establishing themselves as a fiery and energetic collection of musicians with a dynamic stage presence. The groups blend of heavy/melodic riffs, groove riddled percussion and their frenzied energy bring together a unique sound that they are proud to call their own. We caught up with VAN LARKINS who will feature at the show 

What was the first guitar you ever owned? Tell us about how you got it.

Maton Natural series, I bought the guitar from Lez Karski who played with the “Bondi Cigars” for some time. I wrote all of my earlier pieces on the guitar, and I still own it!

What was the first song you ever learned to play?

From memory, the first song I learned was ‘Wish you were Here” by Pink Floyd. My father let me play his guitar, and showed me a few chords, it certainly got me started and gave me an understanding of chord progressions and simple riffs

Tommy Emmanuel, Jeff Beck and Joe Satriani of course!

Best Female Guitarists?

Tal Wilkenfeld, Orianthi and Jennifer Batten

If you could add any guitar to your collection what would it be and why?

Right now I’d really love to get my hands on a Godin Multiac Nylon Fretless Guitar. It really allows for some amazing expression and tone, great for “Out of the box” playing, lot’s of room for experimenting!

If you could design your own custom guitar what features would it have?

MIDI pickups with flawless tracking, LED lights in the fretboard and accelerometers in the head stock for expression

If you could play a gig alongside any guitarist (alive or dead) who would it be?

Tommy Emmanuel would be my first choice for sure, that guy has so much experience on the guitar, and knows the fretboard better than anybody

Five musicians you’d invite to dinner and why?

Tommy Emmanuel, Steve Vai, Tal Wilkenfeld and Ringo Star. What an all-star band that would be. Imagine the jams, that video would break the internet for sure!

We caught up with COREY LEGGE who will feature at the show

What was the first guitar you ever owned? Tell us about how you got it.

My first ever guitar was an Ashton nylon string acoustic from my local music shop ‘Magpie Music’ in Bega. My parents bought it for me when I was eight years old because it was compulsory to learn either guitar or recorder at my primary school… the rest is history.

What was the first song you ever learned to play?

The first song I remember learning on guitar was ‘Whenever God Shines His Light on Me’ by Van Morrison.

If you could add any guitar to your collection what would it be and why?

I’d love to own a late 50’s Les Paul gold top. They sound incredible for old school rock and blues, which is why I used one on The Swamp Stompers latest EP.

Who do you think are the Top Three male guitarists in the world?

My top three male blues guitarists at the moment are Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa, and Marcus King.

Who are the Top Three female guitarists?

I’m a big fan of Australian guitarists Minnie Marks and Julz Parker (Hussy Hicks). I recently saw US blues act Larkin Poe at Bluesfest, and Megan Lovell absolutely shreds on the lap steel!

If you could design your own custom guitar what features would it have?

I love lightweight, smaller bodied electric guitars with humbucker pickups. For the body shape I’d have a combination between an SG and Les Paul, with a Pelham Blue finish and silver hardware.

If you could play a gig alongside any guitarist (alive or dead) who would it be?

I’m a massive AC/DC fan, so it would have to be Angus Young!

Five musicians you’d invite to dinner and why?

Brian Johnson and Angus Young from AC/DC, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, and James Taylor. James Taylor recently shared the link to my debut album ‘Driving out of Eden’, and also shared a video of me performing with young gun Rory Phillips. I think all five musicians would have some crazy stories to tell.

What was the first guitar you ever owned? 

It was a cheap Tesco Guitar. I’m from Baltimore. I got it for Christmas when I was 13.

What was the first song you ever learned to play?

House of the Rising Sun

If you could add any guitar to your collection what would it be and why?

It would be a 1958 Gibson Les Paul. I love the neck profile and the sound of aged wood

Eric Gales, Joe Bonamassa and Tommy Emanuel

Who are the Top Three female guitarists?

Bonnie Raitt, Liona Boyd and Sister Rosetta Tharpe

I already build my own custom guitars. Most are upgraded Fender Stratocasters.

Five musicians you’d invite to dinner and why?

Tom Petty – One of my favorite songwriters. I want his Mojo!

Joe Bonamassa – He’s very intelligent when it comes to the guitar and the business.

George Benson – I love his playing and I want to talk about Wes Montgomery.

Dave Grohl – He’s a great songwriter and a cool human being. Love to hang with him.

Stevie Wonder – Tell him how much his music means to me. Smoke a joint and eat everything on the menu.

Off the back of their recent release, ‘Nice Boys’, indie producer, Youthfire is excited to release its visual component. Stephen Carmichael, the brainchild behind the Melbourne project has previously garnered adoration with songs ‘Emerging’, Puppet, ‘Lift Me Up’, and now latest single ‘Nice Boys’ is proving to be no exception. Working with directors Jack Meddings and Kenny Doan, the ‘Nice Boys’ video exhibits the same intensity and intimacy of Youthfire’s stellar songwriting.

Youthfire has kicked off their first musical offering for the year with this hot collaboration featuring local electronic artist Abraham Tilbury after sharing the stage at the Collartscampus launch in late 2018. Taking inspiration from the 2017, documentary ‘100 Men’,Youthfire explores the broader cultural and historical context surrounding queerness in‘Nice Boys’. Self-recorded and produced, ‘Nice Boys’ features some familiar friends withKathryn Mckee on cello, and is mixed by Tristan Hoogland (Huntly, touch Sensitive, Golden Vessel) and mastered by Matthew Agoglia (The Gorillas, Joywave).

The beautifully crafted video was premiered by WICKEDD CHILDD and features powerful shots of Youthfire alongside choreographed movement artists. Filmed on a minimalist set,Meddings encourages viewers to let the video’s characters firmly hold your attention uninterrupted for four minutes. The collage of audio and video work harmoniously to express the bittersweet sentiment of the search for “one nice boy”.

Fresh from supporting Ruel on his national tour and days until she joins Jack Gray on his East Coast tour, Yorke today releases her new single ‘Thought I Could’ as well as announces her first ever headline shows.

Since launching, the Byron Bay based singer-songwriter has given listeners a bold string of singles that follows her finding her feet in adulthood which can always be a confusing and daunting time. Floating in a confident indie-pop dream space, she embraces her vulnerability and provides a glimmer of hope through her captivating sound.

After premiering her debut single ‘First Light’ towards the end of 2018 she continued the bold and cinematic soundscape with ‘Wake This City’ which was hand-picked as the TV sync for the new season of 9-1-1. This track heard her dabbling with dark synths and beats whilst layering them with smooth pop melodies.

With her new single ‘Thought I Could’ Yorke further explores this sound with a sense of hopefulness riding through the hook. “Always wanted to leave this place but I never really thought I would. Always dreaming of wider spaces, I never really thought I should” and addresses the real thought of telling someone she is leaving her hometown. The bold and cinematic production is elevated by the dark keys, punchy drums and the big chorus that ignites the hook. It becomes an anthem of hope and celebrates the idea of dreams coming true as well as the sacrifices that come in turn with that.

Cowritten with Andy Hopkins and mixed by London based Mark Rankin, ‘Thought I Could’ was conceived on the anxious spring night that ‘First Light’ was released.

“We were in the studio watching it being released around the world, while we were trying to write this song. I was panicking at the time, but I think it added to just how vulnerable the track has become”, she admits. As they worked from 9pm to 3am they dived into the raw emotions that she was riding of having to move to Sydney for her music from her hometown in Byron Bay. “I had to tell someone that I was leaving, and I was really nervous about that going into the session. So, we just used that as fuel for the song to find what I wanted to say to them”.

Ever since writing the coming-of-age track, Yorke is in-between Byron Bay, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane crashing between friend’s houses bringing her artistic vision to life. She has found her real home though through her music and that’s evident in the pure heart she embodies through these early beginnings.

There’s a sign of hope in this uplifting story but she encourages the listener to find their own meaning. “I think that’s the power of music people being able to get so many different things out of someone else story”. she admits.

Between her solo releases, Yorke teamed up with Kilter for an electronic segue on ‘Overdrive’ which heard her implementing her emotionally vulnerable lyrics with Kilter’s tight EDM production. This collaboration perfectly prepares her for more live shows as it diversifies her bold pop sound and adds some slick festival vibes.

With the release of ‘Thought I Could’ she will have new and old fans eager to see what comes next in this evolution of self-discovery as she continues her reign as ‘one to watch for 2019’ from the likes of YouTube, Cool Accidents and Pilerats.

Due to demand, Live Nation is excited to confirm that a 2nd and final show for U2 THE JOSHUA TREE TOUR 2019 has now been confirmed for Saturday, November 23 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The announcement follows confirmation earlier today that a second and final show had been added in Auckland on Saturday, November 9 at Mt. Smart Stadium. Tickets for both shows go on sale Monday, June 17.

As winter draws closer, so does Melbourne-bred progressive alternative rock juggernaut Circles’ monster ‘Winter’ Tour – and today brings with it the announcement of local supports for the Australian leg of the tour. In addition to taking fellow Wild Thing powerhouses Ebonivory along for the ride in Australia, Circles will be sharing the stages with another SIXTEEN local bands across the country. This mega tour just became a string of shows you definitely do not want to miss!

Circles’ Australian headline shows in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Belgrave, and Ballarat are with special guests Ebonivory.

Circles will be bringing something special to their sets with new musical experiences and throwback material that is sure to please the crowds. The Circles guys are pumped to get the shows on the road. Dave Hunter (Drums) affirms “…It’s exciting to be heading out on the road again, especially in a headlining capacity. It’s great to have the time to delve a little deeper into our full catalogue and play a full set for everyone. There’s some tunes in there that either have never been played live, or haven’t been played in a very long time. So hopefully fans can really get more out of this tour. We’re also really stoked with the bands that are joining us.”

2018 was a watershed year for CIRCLES, releasing their masterpiece album The Last One through Wild Thing Records in Australia/New Zealand and Season Of Mist internationally. Louder said that The Last One was “…very much in a similar fashion to countrymen Karnivool, Circles have crafted a modern progressive tapestry with plenty of wider appeal thanks to songwriting nous coupled with their apparent technicality.” They then joined TesseracT on their Australian Tour in September as special guests. Soon after, Circles jetted off on their momentous return to Europe, touring across the continent with fellow Australian progressive rock trailblazers Caligula’s Horse between October-November, while also appearing at prominent festivals ProgPower Europe and Euroblast. Upon their return to Australia, they dazzled audiences on tour with Dead Letter Circus in December, before mesmerising PROGFEST in January 2019, with memorable performances as the festival’s Australian headliner playing to full houses every night.
