News: INTRODUCING A BAND YOU NEED TO HEAR: FOXING (US)

Missouri indie rock band Foxing arrive next week for their first Australian tour. Following the news that they will be performing at Farmer & The Owl Festival, eager Australian fans will be able to catch the very first shows at The Rev in Melbourne, Factory Floor in Sydney and Crowbar in Brisbane.

Foxing recently released their highly-anticipated third album, Nearer My God, on August 10th via Triple Crown/Cooking Vinyl Australia. Created over the course of nearly 3 years, Nearer My God was produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie, The Decemberists) and Foxing guitarist and songwriter Eric Hudson, with help from Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Modern Baseball).

Once firmly planted in emo’s twinkling moods, Foxing now stretches out to soaring heights. All thundering bass and sirens of guitar strings, “Nearer My God” is something akin to David Bowie‘s “Heroes” (an acknowledged influence on this record).

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy®-winning singer and songwriter Ozzy Osbourne has announced that he must, unfortunately, cancel shows in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.  This follows news of the postponement of the entire UK and European leg of his NO MORE TOURS 2 tour on doctors’ orders.

Ozzy recently developed pneumonia and has spent some time in hospital. Thankfully he is now through the worst part, his doctors have advised that he stay at home to recuperate for a full six weeks with no travel,” says Sharon Osbourne.

We are extremely disappointed to have to bring this news to you, our Download family, however it should go without saying, Ozzy’s health and wellbeing is number one. We wish Ozzy all the best in his recovery and hope he is back to full health as soon as possible.

It is impossible to replace Ozzy Osbourne at any time, but three weeks out from Download there is no chance of us securing an act to replace the headline slot.

We are pleased to announce Aussie hard rock kings, Airbourne will join the Download line up and thank them for joining us with such short notice! The scrappy upstarts from Warrnambool – a country town about 3 hours from Melbourne, announced their arrival with 2007’s Runnin’ Wild, one of the most talked-about and best-reviewed debuts in recent hard rock history. Metal Hammer handed them a Golden Gods Award for Best Debut Album and Classic Rock rightly hailed them Best New Band.

Airbourne further marked their territory with the jaw-dropping follow up No Guts. No Glory cracking the Top 40 in the UK, the Top 20 in Australia and Billboard’s Top 200. After unrelenting global touring that included co-headlining the legendary Wacken Festival and performing on the main stage at Download UK, the band released the critically acclaimed Black Dog Barking into the world.

The album reached #5 in Germany, Top 20 across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand; and Top 30 in Canada and the U.K. Airbourne bring a sound that UK’s Metal Hammer suggests, “takes seconds to memorise and a lifetime to shake off.”

Set times will be announced in the next two weeks, keep your eyes peels!

In lieu of Ozzy’s cancellation, we will also offer all current ticket holders a merchandise voucher to the value of $45 plus postage and handling available from our online shop at 24hundred.net from 9am AEDT Monday 4 March 2019. Ticket holders must enter their ticket number to redeem the voucher. This voucher is only redeemable online and cannot be redeemed at the event. Voucher is valid for the full Official Event Merchandise range.

This merchandise voucher offer will not be available to new ticket purchasers, only those who have purchased tickets prior to the cancellation announcement on Monday 18 February midday.

Should patrons require refunds, they will be available now until Midnight AEDT Sunday 24 February 2019. To request a refund, you’ll need to get in touch with the Ticketmaster Customer Service Team by clicking here. Please select the “Refund/Exchange” Topic and complete all required fields of the form.

News: MECHANICAL PTERODACTYL releases haunting duet STRIKE UP A MATCH

MECHANICAL PTERODACTYL releases haunting duet STRIKE UP A MATCH
Mechanical Pterodactyl is the creation of Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist/producer Yen Nguyen.
Nguyen brings eclectic sounds and production techniques together to make unique and layered
compositions that he releases under the moniker ‘Mechanical Pterodactyl’. His latest single ‘Strike Up A Match’
is testament to his unique approach, piecing together electronic and acoustic instruments, and
drawing influence from the likes of Bon Iver, Frank Ocean and James Blake.
‘Strike Up A Match’ is the first single from Mechanical Pterodactyl’ second full-length album Timelapse, which was written and produced all by Nguyen over a period of seven years!
All of the guitar, bass, synth, keys, and drum parts that feature in the song were played by Nguyen and
recorded one at a time. However, the song is not a solo effort entirely as it does feature long time
collaborator Jenny Lee and her elegant alto voice. Lee’s vocals are soft and enchanting and the perfect
element to weave rich and haunting harmonies around Nguyen’s baritone. The two voices act like two
devils on the shoulders of the song’s protagonist;
“Gotta make a decision, there’s no time for precision”.
Underneath the ethereal vocals growls an insistent synth bass fuelled on by the pulse of dual drum kits.
The song culminates as a string quartet emerges over layers of guitar, Rhodes piano, and synths as Lee’s
voice proclaims “I’d have made it out the door, if I had somewhere to go”
“It’s the feeling of being stuck in a loop, of playing out the same routine from week to week. Strike Up a
Match is a song about snapping out of it.”
– Yen Nguyen (multi-instrumentalist/producer)
Strike Up a Match’ is the first single to be lifted off the new album,Timelapse.
This is the follow-up to Mechanical Pterodactyl’s critically praised 2012 album, Watercolours

Live Review: Darren Middleton

Darren Middleton
Geddes Lane Ballroom

The dark alleyway that leads to Geddes Ballroom this evening plays host to Darren Middleton ,a name synonymous with the landscape of iconic Australian music. This evening Darren has gathered together with some of Australia’s finest musical talent to present an evening of intimate and acoustic offerings.

Admittedly nervous Darren holds the audience in the palm of his capable hands with his charm and ability to tell a good story. His way of viewing and translating the world is laid bare for all to hear and its at times raw and emotional, yet always captivating. b

Whether he is singing a new song or re-familiarizing us with something old,Darren is a pleasure to listen to. The audience agree and he is happy to interact with them, its a casual evening.
His set list is a lengthy one this evening, but with the help of Sahara Beck, Kelly Lane and the charismatic Davey Lane he memorizes the audience with ‘ Lost and Running’ Just Let Me Go’ and ‘ In the End’. Davey Lane joining him for the memorable Crowded House number ‘ Distant Sun’ towards the end of the evening.

The gig in the intimate ballroom this evening has been casual, a little like inviting your best mate over for a drink and a tale.

My Dream Rider Series: High Tropics

Following on from a massive 2018, infectious garage-pop kings, High Tropics have returned with their glowing, nostalgic number ‘Feel The Same’. Produced by Elliot Heinrich (Future Jr) and mastered by Brian Lucey (Cage the ElephantLiam Gallagher), the track sees songwriter Josh Stewart expand on his ever-growing catalogue of indie-rock sing-alongs.

He sat down to talk to us about the rider of their dreams:

1) Let’s start at the beginning, we need our dream tour manager with us. Kenny Powers might not be the best person in the world to have booking flights and accommodation, but he knows exactly what we need in the green room to summon our Agame.

2) An abundant but finite amount of Diablo ginger beer (ginger is great for the pipes). Throw in a couple of warm VB tins, to offer the people who over did it the night before. That’ll slow ‘em down.

3) Space to stretch and move! This is a big one, as it’s hard to get in the zone when you’re all crammed into a closet.

4) We don’t like to have too much in our guts before we hop on stage, but it’s always a good night when we get to graze on an assortment of crisps, as long as there’s Byron Bay’s farmer market hummus.

5) Captain Morgan’s Spiced Gold. This guy right here is for after the work is done, a toast amongst the gentlemen of High Tropics and their crew, including Kenny Powers and good old Gordon Ramsay.

6) Since this is our dream rider, you best believe we’ve got our very own anaesthetist. It’s a long trip to the next stop of the tour. Who wants to sit in a luxury tour bus, playing Fortnite on a ubiquitous Wifi connection, when you could just be sedated? Pure bliss waking up to the hangover cure that Gordy has been whipping up for the boys.

7) An epic sound system to blast the “High in the Tropics” playlist. They say you can’t control everything, but you can always control the ambience. Hit shuffle and stream here:
https://open.spotify.com/artist/3gNHyTC0o3rtyaamHFcPnB

 8) A couple of Gordy’s signature hot toddies and boom we’re back in business.

27 Listicle Series: Port Royal’s Top 5 Reasons To Miss Soundcheck

United by a shared love of the attitude, aesthetic, and music of classic rock and roll culture, Brisbane’s Port Royal have been making waves in the local scene since mid-2015. Their mind-melting mix of electric live performances and blend of iconic 70’s rock influences complemented by contemporary and relatable lyrics makes for an unmistakably catchy sound that will have you singing along with every chorus. Heading into 2019, the band will release their latest single Don’t You Forget About Me and plan to embark on their biggest national tour to date. The song is a summer indie pop tune and somewhat signifies diversity from their traditional song writing roots.

Port Royal’s Top 5 Reasons To Miss Soundcheck

#1 Logistics

Whether it’s being behind time due to an automotive malfunction, a non-existent alarm clock, an inaccurate planning of time to distance ratio or an airline check in time frame, logistics are one of the biggest threats to this band’s punctuality and ability to perform a thorough soundcheck – especially whilst under the influence of pressure. Living this rather abnormal lifestyle can definitely have a large effect on one’s ability to get themselves to soundcheck on time.

#2 Hygiene

As Morto (Liam Morton – Lead Guitarist), adheres to a strict rule of 4 tooth brushings a day and Chase’s (Chase Brodie – Bass Guitarist) extended toilet breaks get the better of imminent deadlines, the humanistic desire for proper hygiene can really put a spanner in the works when trying to meet a 5:30pm soundcheck. The rush out of the door and harrowing call to “Load the car!” can often be easily ignored for the sake of a minty fresh breath or a little more ‘me’ time in the shower.

#3 Hunger

Living a lifestyle where convenient healthy food is hard to come by, a full stomach is of high importance amongst this group whose eyes are definitely bigger than their stomach. I’d like to believe this band provides itself on healthy and suitable sized eating in order to combat the repercussions of its debaucherous behaviour. One thing is for sure, there’s nothing that gets Arnie (Connor Arnold – Drums) more offside than missing his big 3, breakfast, lunch & dinner – a growing boy needs his energy.

#4 Romance

There may be a sound system that requires more attention and delicacy than any of your previous relationships, but the gloomy nature of a final goodbye during your last 24 hours in a city can often affect one’s decision making when confronted with the option to pass on a soundcheck for the sake of some extra alone time with a special someone.

#5 Personal Financial Stability

In an industry where a dollar is hard to come by and independent bands are a struggling self-funded entity, you’ve gotta learn to take the money when it’s offered to you. A hard working day on the streets busking your guts out to meet the 6pm home time rush can often take preference over an extra 20 mins spent on guitar levels at a venue where the PA is incapable of audible difference. The cafe and small bar acoustic gig hustle can also hinder the unsuspecting member whose 6pm finish time had soon become 7pm when considering that extra cash could satisfy the week’s rent. Nevertheless, the Port Royal show takes priority at all times, but the soundcheck may often fall second priority if there’s a phone bill due in a couple of days.

News: Greta Van Fleet Announce Rescheduled Tour Dates For September All Previously Purchased Tickets Are Valid for New Shows

2019 US Grammy Award winning rockers, Greta Van Fleet, have rescheduled their recently postponed Australian shows for September!

The band were unable to perform their Brisbane and Melbourne shows of their “March of the Peaceful Army” World Tour in January due to front man Josh Kiszka falling ill and receiving medical advice to rest his voice.

Drawing rave reviews for their two sold out Sydney shows, Greta Van Fleet totally lived up to their reputation of being one of the most buzzed-about new rock bands today and their fans now fortunately won’t have to wait too long for their return.

On Sunday, the band took out their first ever Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, for their From The Fires EP as the buzz continues to build…

The new shows will take place on:
Tuesday, September 3: Eatons Hill Hotel, Brisbane
Friday, September 6: Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Saturday, September 7: Festival Hall, Melbourne

ALL TICKETS for the postponed shows remain valid for these new dates without the need for exchange.

Any fans who have refunded their tickets will be able to repurchase during an exclusive 23-hour window from 12.00p on Thursday, February 14 until 11.00am on Friday, February 15

There are limited tickets available for the Brisbane and Melbourne shows which will go on sale to the general public from midday on Friday, February 15.

ABOUT GRETA VAN FLEET
Music fans were first introduced to Greta Van Fleet Josh Kiszka/vocals, Jake Kiszka/guitars, Sam Kiszka/bass & keys, and Danny Wagner/drums – in March 2017 with the release of the band’s debut single Highway Tune that held the #1 position on U.S. Rock Radio Charts for five consecutive weeks and on Canada’s Active Rock Radio Charts for nine straight weeks.

Twenty-seventeen went on to be a wild ride of sold-out concerts in North America and Europe, glowing press, accolades from a slew of fellow artists from Elton John to Nikki Sixx to Justin Bieber, millions of YouTube video plays and Spotify streams, two #1 EPs, a Gold record in Canada, and most importantly, the genesis of an extraordinary connection with their fans.

The band’s debut album, Anthem of the Peaceful Army, was released on October 19 (Lava/Republic Records). It came crashing into the ARIA Top 10 and has turned the rock world upside down. There hasn’t been a rock record to light the fires like this in a long time!

The album’s first radio track, When The Curtain Falls, took a mere three weeks to explode into the Top 10 at Rock Radio and is currently at #3 on the Rock Radio charts. It has accumulated more than 18.5-million streams, and four million-plus views of the  music video.

On Sunday, February 10, 2019, Greta Van Fleet won their first Grammy Award for
