The Victoria Pavilion at the Melbourne Showgrounds is set to play host to Australia’s ultimate showcase of guitars, amps, pedals and lots of other gear on Saturday March 1 and Sunday March 2; and with a new venue, a brand new layout and a reimagined program offering a horde of new ideas, workshops and live opportunities, 2025’s Melbourne Guitar Show will undeniably be the ultimate mecca for axe-slingers and riff-bringers of all ages.

Offering Australia’s largest showcase of guitars, guitar products and guitar playing, the Melbourne Guitar Show celebrates the versatility and endless possibility of the world’s most popular instrument in a new and more accessible venue in 2025. With the new venue, Victoria Pavilion at Melbourne Showgrounds, the event will be more accessible and easier to navigate this year; with the show operating entirely on one level, moving around the event is a breeze and you won’t miss a thing! And for those who want to explore and talk about guitars in a quieter setting, for the first time ever the Melbourne Guitar Show this year will also host ‘quiet mornings’, where amplifiers won’t be used by exhibitors, bringing down the volume for a more intimate and sensory-friendly setting.

PERFORMANCES AND SESSIONS

The impressive 2025 lineup features a diverse range of genres, guitars, and presenters, including rock, blues, jazz, funk, Americana, flamenco, and more, with none other than Aussie powerhouse Dallas Frasca headlining on Saturday 1 March set to ignite the Melbourne Guitar Show stage with plenty of trademark raw and rock-soaked energy. Also locked in for the Saturday program, the 30th anniversary of Australian Musician Magazine will be celebrated with a special session in conversation with Aussie guitar lord and all-round music icon Paul Dempsey, along with performances from flamenco guitarist Richard Tedesco, and renowned singer-songwriter and guitarist Gretta Ziller. Sunday’s event will see revered guitarist and founding member of Battlesnake, Paul Mason, bring his critically-acclaimed event In Honour of Jeff Beck to the Melbourne Guitar show, along with performances from guitar prodigy Minnie Marks, Aussie guitar supergroup Triple Fret, featuring Kathleen Halloran, Jimi Hocking and Geoff Achison, and neo-funk instrumental act The CB3. Check out the full performer list here.

MAKE MUSIC PROGRAM

For the first time in 2025, the Melbourne Guitar Show will feature the Make Music program, supported by the NAMM Foundation. As part of Make Music Australia, a national campaign celebrating and promoting music-making, this special program will inspire and inform music makers about a range of playing styles and songwriting, with Rock Academy and I Heart Songwriting Club presenting workshops and showcases.

GEAR UTOPIA

As always, the jewel in the crown of the Melbourne Guitar Show’s unique offering is the vast collection of guitars, pedals, amps and other gear on display, spanning everything from the biggest global brands through to local luthiers building only a handful of guitars per year. This year’s show features a separate Fender room and a national showcase of Australian guitar brands including Melbourne’s own Maton Guitars and Cole Clark Guitars, Ormsby Guitars from WA, Fenech Guitars and Pratley Guitars from QLD, Mark Gilbert Guitars (TAS), Crossley Guitars, as well as new brands launching at the show including SKOL Guitars and Poschelk Guitars (QLD). You’ll be able to see gear in action, and try and buy at the show, all while enjoying the incredible array of performances, workshops and more on offer. Check out the exhibitor list here.

ENHANCE YOUR SKILLS

As a leading advocate for music making and music education, the show’s producer, Alex Masso, has also included plenty of opportunities to learn and be inspired across the two days this March. A series of guitar playing styles workshops will run on Sunday, as well as songwriting workshops on Saturday. And on the main stage YouTubers Leon Todd and Gabor from The SuperFunAwesomeHappyTime Pedal Show will take you through how to use a range of gear for different styles of playing.

FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

The Melbourne Guitar Show is a family friendly event, with free tickets for under 12’s making it an affordable price for a family day out. SOMA SHARES SULTRY NEW SINGLE + VIDEO ‘SAY IT’ LIFTED FROM ‘COBRA’ MIXTAPE SET FOR FEBRUARY 21 RELEASE

Bold, slick and laden with modern hip hop hues, today Sydney-based artist SOMA unveils her new single Say It, conjured alongside the legendary Danny Duke (Lizzo, Sampa the Great), and also accompanied by a cosmic music video ahead of the release of her debut mixtape COBRA, due out on February 21.

A sultry slice of alternative hip hop merged with futuristic soul, Say It collides SOMA’s seamless artistry alongside nods to the fearless storytelling and creativity of SZA, FKA twigs, and Outkast. Also expanding her experimental approach to music via inspiration courtesy of Björk and Missy Elliott, Soma ultimately captures edgy celestial vibes with her own unique twist in her latest masterpiece. “Say It is about an alien falling in love with a human on Earth and exploring this intense, otherworldly connection,” SOMA explains. “It’s a metaphor for feeling like you don’t belong yet finding someone who accepts and loves you unconditionally. It’s sensual, intimate, and cosmic—pushing boundaries while still remaining deeply human. The idea came from a conversation about how love transcends everything: distance, identity, and even planets. Releasing Say It feels surreal. This single represents such a bold step for me as an artist—it’s raw, emotional, and unlike anything I’ve done before. Sharing it with the world is a little terrifying, but mostly it’s empowering. It’s my way of saying, “This is who I am, take it or leave it.”

Teaming up with Danny Duke, the award-winning producer renowned for his work with Lizzo and Sampa the Great amongst others, SOMA also channelled her boundless sonic stylings into an accompanying music video for Say It, with the clip, directed by Frederick McHenry, expanding SOMA’s creative evolution as she steps into a bold new era in the lead up to the release of her mixtape, COBRA.The video was directed by Frederick McHenry, whose storytelling ability is unmatched,” shares SOMA of the Say It music video. “He’s worked with some amazing artists and brought so much vision and expertise to the project. His Atlanta roots added a unique flair to the visuals. This video is a love story told through the lens of surrealism. Think dreamy visuals, glowing alien skin, and neon-lit cityscapes. It’s both futuristic and intimate—a visual representation of love that transcends boundaries.”

A mixtape set to dive into concepts of life, love, loss, self-discovery, letting go, taking control, and learning to stop caring about things that don’t matter, SOMA’s highly-anticipated debut, COBRA, due out on February 21, boasts 11 powerful tracks, each enticing you into SOMA’s creative universe while also cementing the Sydney-based artist as a genuine musical force. From the swagger of 247 through to the futuristic yet primal expanse of Burn, the raw, crystalline beauty of Sink, the humid and prowling White Silk, and the sultry emotives of Say It, SOMA’s COBRA mixtape is a sharply-polished outing that also dazzles with its immersive lyrical content, as SOMA elaborates, “COBRA explores life, love, loss, self-discovery, and empowerment. It’s about healing from trauma, letting go of pain, and reclaiming your power. Each track tells its own story while contributing to this larger narrative of resilience and growth. Writing this was an empowering and deeply cathartic experience. I chose the mixtape format because I wanted to release a cohesive body of work that truly represents my sound and my story. It feels so good to finally get these thoughts out—onto paper, into music. My own therapy sessions. My metamorphosis.”

COBRA will arrive on February 21, alongside an accompanying 20-minute long-form film, directed by Frederick McHenry, with the visual companion set to amplify the mixtape’s raw emotional power and creative depth, while also firmly signposting SOMA as an innovative visionary in the local scene.

Heavily inspired by honesty, empathy and “the ability to transform pain into art”, SOMA has evolved into an artist renowned for her ability to fuse timeless charm with raw emotion and modern flair. Growing up listening to hip hop, classical and everything in between, SOMA’s eclectic taste developed at a young age, has continued and ignited with each new release in her solo material, also drawing her creative moniker from the idea of nourishment for the soul, whether through music, storytelling, or connection. In this transformative moment of our world, where society stands at a critical crossroads, SOMA sees the digital age as a unique opportunity to explore, share, and collaborate across diverse voices – and music, as a universal language, plays a pivotal role in this evolution. For SOMA, it is not just a medium for expression; it is a tool for healing and connection, a way to navigate and transcend the complexities of time, fostering shared experiences that unify us all. With a voice capable of transcending time, space and emotion, she crafts music that resonates globally: “As a multicultural woman from Australia, I believe music and the arts hold profound power to dismantle barriers and pave the way toward a more inclusive and compassionate future”.

Off the back of unveiling Say It, and in conjunction with the upcoming release of her brand new mixtape COBRA on February 21, Soma is also set to perform some special mixtape launch shows, including her official launch party in Sydney on Friday March 7. And, as SOMA concludes, these performances are set to be something truly memorable both for SOMA herself as well as her fans.

Fans can expect a transformative experience. My live shows are about energy, connection, and storytelling. It’s not just about performing the songs; it’s about taking the audience on a journey. With new visuals, choreography, and some surprises, it’s going to be unforgettable.”

Say It is out today.
SOMA’s COBRA mixtape and accompanying long-form film is set for release Friday February 21 via Mandatory Music.

CYHRA, the champions of melodic metal, have unleashed their latest single ‘Superman’ today, heralding a new era since the release of their third album, The Vertigo Trigger.

The track explodes with headbang-inducing riffs, as vocalist Jake E teases its epic, melody-rich chorus against a backdrop of sharp instrumentals. The almost spoken verses escalate to a larger-than-life chorus, culminating in irresistible, sing-along choirs that emphatically signal CYHRA‘s trajectory is set to soar above and beyond at breakneck speed!

“Sometimes, life tests our limits, but when we choose to rise, to dream, and to believe, we find the strength to be unstoppable. Because deep down, we all have a ‘Superman’ within us,”comment CYHRA the song’s meaning.

This track was mastered by renowned audio engineer Maor Appelbaum, known for his work with HALFORD, SABATON, and EQUILIBRIUM, among others. The artwork for ‘Superman’ was crafted by Gustavo Sazes, a longtime collaborator who has designed for SOILWORK, DYNAZTY, and VLTIMAS. Sazeshas been instrumental in shaping the visual identity of CYHRA‘s previous three studio albums as well.

Vocalist Jake E states: “We are thrilled to announce that we have officially signed with Reigning Phoenix Music! This marks an exciting new chapter in our journey, and we couldn’t be prouder to join a family that shares our passion for music and artistry. Reigning Phoenix Music is home to a roster of incredible talent and a team of dedicated professionals, many of whom we’ve had the pleasure of working with earlier in our career. Reuniting with such familiar faces feels like coming home, and we’re confident that this partnership will allow us to reach new heights together. We’re already hard at work with new music, and with Reigning Phoenix Music by our side, we’re more inspired than ever to create something truly unforgettable for our fans. “We are are excited to welcome CYHRA to our family and for the opportunity to work with them again. Their talent, passion, and energy align perfectly with our vision of elevating artistry to new heights. Together, we’re setting the stage for an incredible journey!” adds the RPM team.

About CYHRA

As they approach their 10th anniversary next year, CYHRA have carved out a notable place in the metal scene since their founding in 2016 by Jake E (formerly AMARANTHE) and Jesper Strömblad (THE HALO EFFECT, formerly IN FLAMES). They were soon joined by drummer Alex Landenburg (KAMELOT, Luca Turilli’s RHAPSODY) and bassist Peter Iwers (THE HALO EFFECT, formerly IN FLAMES). Their debut album “Letters To Myself” was released in 2017 to glowing reviews, catapulting the group to global stages, crowned with a massive North American tour supporting SABATON and KREATOR.

Following Iwers‘ departure, Euge Valovirta(guitars, bass) joined the line-up, and the band released their second album “No Halos In Hell” in 2019, which blended groovy metal with a poppy flair and featured the hit single ‘Out Of My Life,’ amassing about 11 million streams on Spotify. Their success continued with a European tour with BATTLE BEAST, UK dates alongside DELAIN, headline shows in select countries including Finland and Japan, and performances at major festivals like Masters of Rock, Bloodstock Open Air, Sabaton Open Air, and 70,000 Tons of Metal.

In 2020, guitarist Marcus Sunesson (RONNIE ATKINS, THE CROWN) joined, expanding the line-up. The pandemic pause allowed the band to craft their third album “The Vertigo Trigger,”released in 2023. The album’s tour brought them back to Finland to open for SMASH INTO PIECES and to headline shows in early 2024. Quietly beginning their fourth album, CYHRAended the cycle with a Scandinavian tour with EVERGREY, leading into 2025 with the standalone single ‘Superman.’

RELEASE VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE DEPTH PERCEPTION
DOWNLOAD PRESS ASSETS
PROFILER have released the video for their latest single Depth Perception, taken from the upcoming deluxe edition of their debut album A Digital Nowhere that’s set to release on Friday 17 February on SharpTone Records.

Mike Evans from the band comments on the new track: “The track delves into how trauma healing can allow us to reconnect to those around us that we’ve lost touch with due to past negative experiences. It’s talking about letting go of negative past events.”

Watch the video for Depth Perception here:
Profiler is a Nu-Metal reawakening from the mind of vocalist and guitarist Mike Evans. This band is inspired by those who have incited change in genres, arts, and theories. It’s a weight of legacy that Profiler is comfortable shouldering, backed by SharpTone Records, its home since 2020.

After starting as a solo project in Bristol, UK, Mike stepped out from the studio and onto the stage, enlisting bassist/vocalist Joe Johnson and drummer Oscar Hocking. In early 2023, Oscar departed to be replaced by Brad Ratcliffe, cementing the line-up that would forge 2024’s debut album, A Digital Nowhere.

Profiler‘s nu-metal-grunge-alt-rock, call it what you want, is an abrasive distorted soundscape that reverently glances back to those genres’ heydays. Profiler is for anyone who misses or missed the contagious nineties Seattle grunge movement or the explosion of nu-metal that dominated the 00s and the genre-bending bands they made a path for.

News: ENEMY INSIDE Release New Single & Video ‘Dirt On My Name’

ENEMY INSIDE Release New Single & Video ‘Dirt On My Name’

With less than a month and a half to go before the release of their highly anticipated new album Venom, ENEMY INSIDE have returned with the new high-energy single ‘Dirt On My Name’. The single, which combines influences of metalcore and R&B, highlights the new direction the band has taken musically and includes a guest appearance from Mirza Radonjica of Danish sensations SIAMESE.

Vocalist Nastassja Giulia comments, “We wanted to keep our catchy melodies while incorporating more breakdowns and harsh vocals, but also not set ourselves any stylistic limits.”

Venom will be released on February 28th, 2025via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM) and will be released on CD, vinyl and all DSPs.

About Venom

ENEMY INSIDE’s most daring and energizing effort delivers eleven tracks and sees the band venture into heavier, more intricate territories, blending metalcore, industrial, and modern rock influences. While ENEMY INSIDE’s own guitarist Evan K oversaw the members tracking their parts and produced Venom at Epsilon Studio, Christoph Wieczorek (Sawdust Recordings; ANNISOKAY) laid his skillful mixing and mastering touches on the record.

“We feel that we’ve really found our sound now but that doesn’t mean it has to be the same on the next album,” Nastassja confirms. “I think it’s important to understand that a band wants to evolve and develop musically and it’s ultimately entitled to make the music they want to make as a creative collective – and that’s what this album stands for: We wanted to keep our catchy melodies while incorporating more breakdowns and harsh vocals without setting ourselves any stylistic limits.”

Starting with its high-octane title track, the highlight-studded album lets the group’s recent singles — their Halloween smash hit “Fuck That Party” [feat. Zak Tell of CLAWFINGER], ‘the sensitizing “Should Have Known Better,” the Japan/anime driven power track Sayonara,” as well as the almost ballad-esque “What We Used To Be” — shine in an even brighter light as part of the Venom flow. But that’s not all: With Mirza Radonjica (“Dirt On My Name”), the singer of Denmark’s SIAMESE, and the very own Davey Suicide (“I’d Rather Be Dead”), two more outstanding musicians lent their vocals to the majesty that the album is.

SCOUR is pleased to unleash their latest single, ‘Blades,’ and its accompanying video. The track comes by way of the band’s ferocious new full-length, Gold, set for release on February 21st via Housecore Records in North America and Nuclear Blast in Europe.

SCOUR is the extreme metal collective featuring heavy music veterans Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down), Derek Engemann (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals), John Jarvis (Nest, Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index), and Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, Lock Up).

Deepening the experience set forth on SCOUR’s previously released EP trilogy,Gold pulls the listener through a blistering vortex of speed, aggression, and, above all, absolute horror. Drawing from a deep framework of literary horror masterworks, Gold guides the listener beyond the realm of death and through the metaphysical anomalies of a dishevelled and decaying mind. In-so-which the pall of a savage universe is lifted, an inconceivable puppet master revealed, the remaining self of the listener excruciatingly dissolved, and left asking, “who is it that pulls the strings?

Musically, SCOUR fuses the raw aggression of black metal with grindcore, punk, and thrash influences, manifesting a sound that honours extreme metal’s roots while pushing it into modern territory. Their minimalist approach is relentless and brutal, perfectly embodying this vision.

Of Gold’s first single, ‘Infusorium,’ released in November, Revolver gushed, “It’s an absolutely face-melting blast packed with elements of black metal, grindcore, punk, and thrash, all topped by Anselmo’s throat-shredding death roar.” Metal Injection concurred, writing, “holy shit, Anselmo sounds nothing short of demonic on this thing.

The video for ‘Blades,’ which was shot by Malcolm Pugh, includes footage from Anselmo’s annual Housecore Home Haunt 2024 as well as SCOUR’s most recent live show at Southport Music Hall in New Orleans.

Engemann further elaborates, “SCOURcomes in hot with our second offering from the Gold LP, ‘Blades’ — a fierce, ripping, ‘unholy grilling of spirits!’ From the very beginning of the Gold writing sessions, ‘Blades’ stood out with its unrelenting, grinding riffage — a natural choice for track 2, keeping the album’s blistering energy alive.

“The accompanying music video amplifies the intensity, filmed at none other than Philip Anselmo’s private home Haunt. Shot during the Halloween season, the grotesque and gothic atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for this ‘tower of gore.’ The video is topped off with spliced footage from our recent live show at the Southport Hall in New Orleans. Filmed and directed by the talented Malcolm Pugh, ‘Blades’ is a blood-soaked anthem that demands to be blasted at maximum volume”

Forged in 2015, SCOUR quickly made their mark with the blistering debut single “Dispatched.” Their first release, The Grey EP (2016), came via Anselmo’s own Housecore Records, followed by The Red EP in 2017. In 2020, SCOUR unleashed their most aggressive effort yet, The Black EP, released under Housecore and Nuclear Blast Records and featuring guest appearances from notable figures like Erik Rutan, Pat O’Brien, and actor Jason Momoa.

And now SCOUR elevates their intensity with the announcement of their first full-length album, Gold, which includes a guest solo by Gary Holt (Slayer, Exodus). Recording for Gold began in February 2023 at Nodferatu’s Lair — Philip Anselmo’s personal studio and rehearsal space — which saw the band highly engaged in a concentrated effort toward a truly diabolical composition, with Anselmo leading the charge at every turn. One would often find the entire band in the control room in ecstatic debate, meticulously mulling over every blast beat and divebomb. The album was intermittently refined, and lyrical concepts finalized, over the course of 2023 as touring schedules would allow.

Anselmo began vocal recordings in the Fall of 2023 at The Lair. Backup vocal recordings were then executed by the rest of the band in arena backstage rooms over the course of Pantera’s February 2024 tour, where the full band would also thoroughly review the instrumentation mixes. Once the tracks were finalized by SCOUR and mixing engineer Dennis Israel, they were then passed to Fascination Street Studio in Örebro, Sweden for mastering by Jens Bogren.

Despite their relatively short career,SCOUR has performed at some of the world’s most prominent festivals, including Roskilde, Hellfest, Tecate Metal Fest, and Maryland Deathfest. With such a powerful pedigree, SCOUR remains a dominant force in both live performances and studio recordings, and fans can expect even more from them in the future.
