News: Festival Announcement | Knight and Day Festival Reveals It’s Line-Up!

KNIGHT AND DAY FESTIVAL
REVEALS IT’S LINE-UP!
Hear ye, hear ye!

T’was a battle of a year, fraught with ill bearings but it’s time to rejoice, the good people at Destroy All Lines declare a most tantalising soiree with which to bid this wretch of a year adu with Knight and Day Festival, Australia’s brand-new two-day alternative music festival, set to march on Ballarat’s Kryal Castle, on the eve of New Year.

And Lo! ‘Tis a line-up rife with wonderment.

Gracing the festivities will be none other than the Lords of Australian metal, the crowned princes of Byron Bay Parkway Drive, set to unleash their first live performance in an age. Sydney’s purveyors of regal metalcore, Polaris will also bestow their sonic wares upon all those who dare enter the Castle grounds.

A preverbal who’s who of Australia’s alternative noble folk will also be making the sojourn to the faire, from the enchanting Alex Lahey, to ne’er do wells Bakers Eddy and the gluttonously devious The Chats.

And by Merlin’s beard, Knight and Day Festival will be a place in which to marvel at magic not seen elsewhere, such as traveling muses Hellions performing their masterpiece ‘Opera Oblivia’ in full, and the honourable heroes of the scene, The Getaway Plan weaving magic from ‘Other Voices, Other Rooms’ in its entirety.

Once thou thirst for live music has been quenched, ticket holders can frolic through the array of delights from the mesmerising maze, medieval performances, Dungeons, Torture Museums, Knights Towers, Secret Dragons Labyrinth to DJs and multiple acoustic stages.

Send the ravens, and rally your banner people as now, and once and for all we wish this ghastly year ‘Go thy way!’

News: ELI GREENEYES SHARES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO SHE DON’T CARE

Greeneyes is exactly the kind of artist we need in 2021 – eccentric, exciting, guitar-driven pop reminiscent of classics Oasis and Something For Kate but also modern pop rulers Yungblud and even Billie Eilish – and today, he has announced his electric new single and video She Don’t Care. The WA-based musician will be performing a one off, hometown headline show at Indian Ocean Hotel on September 24, and off the back of his collaboration with Perth hip hop royalty DRAPHT on his new album Shadows and Shinings (also released today), Eli Greeneyes will be joining DRAPHT on the road for his extensive 13 WA-date album tour in September, October and November this year.

She Don’t Care features so much of what we already know we love about Eli Greeneyes, but with plenty of innovation to spark a thrill upon every new listen. It’s guitar-driven, powerful pop, with a carefully written topline, impassioned lyrics, and an absolutely killer mix. It’s like a track from the early 2000s, written for a 2021 audience. Speaking on the inspiration behind She Don’t Care, Eli Greeneyes says, “She Don’t Care is about someone from my past who came along at a time when I was having a lot of mental health issues. Their intentions were extremely different to mine and I was listening to them too much instead of trusting my own intentions and instincts! I lost myself. When I wrote it I thought it was their fault, but now I realise that I also played a part in letting it take that direction. I had to write this song to gain back my true ‘not taking shit’ self.”

The video for She Don’t Care is overflowing with attitude, and it’s the perfect visual representation of the frustration and angst behind the song itself. Eli Greeneyes sings directly to the camera, walking towards us while a woman points and yells right up in his face. The confrontation is real, but the resolve that Greeneyes has developed through the catharsis of this song is real too. Speaking simply, he reflects on the idea behind the video clip, and the team who made it happen, “The concept was created by my friends James Mooney, Ben Matei and I. We wanted it to be predominantly a performance based video with an underlying simple narrative of self destruction and attracting the wrong people in your life… Everyone involved with the clip is creative in their own light with something to say and achieve. They are all my best friends who I want to take on this journey.”

Produced alongside Mark McEwan (Karnivool, Drapht), She Don’t Care is a brilliant example of an artist who is totally in control of the process, and completely enamoured by the idea of creating new songs and new sounds. Not only is Eli Greeneyes producing killer tracks for himself, but he’s also collaborating with other artists, including DRAPHT, and sharing his high production skills with his wider community. Speaking of community, Eli Greeneyes is pumped to get back on the stage and perform for his fans, as he reflects, “My shows are an opportunity to meet and understand my fans with what they connect with the most about my music. What am I saying that makes them feel heard and understood? That all comes down to singing the lyrics for me. Expressing them in that up close and personal way so the story hits straight to the heart.”

With his solo band starting their first tour in over 30 months this September, MYLES KENNEDY is releasing another music video from his chart-topping sophomore release The Ides Of MarchThe video for “A Thousand Words” finds MYLES reconnecting with director Stefano Bertelli (Alter Bridge’s “Native Son”/MYLES KENNEDY’s “In Stride” video) for another animated masterpiece. About MYLES KENNEDY:
At this point, MYLES KENNEDY’s voice precedes him. Certainly, it courses through six chart-topping albums from gold-selling rock juggernaut Alter Bridge, three records with Slash and The Conspirators, two albums from The Mayfield Four, his 2018 solo debut Year of the Tiger, and guest appearances for everyone from Disturbed and Halestorm to Gov’t MuleSevendustMark Morton and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. For as much as he remains renowned for his skyscraping timbre and earth-quaking bluesy wail, his musicianship also encompasses eloquent songcraft, thoughtful cinematic arrangements, and, of course, dynamic guitar fireworks as explosive as his astounding vocal range. MYLES KENNEDY burst on the music scene in 1990, but it wasn’t until 1995, through his band The Mayfield Four, that he gained some notoriety. It was when The Mayfield Four toured opening for hitmakers Creed that MYLES KENNEDY would meet Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips. This meeting would eventually lead to the formation of Alter Bridge, the band that would become Myles’ calling card to the world.
In 2008, the legacy of MYLES KENNEDY was circling the music industry and eventually found its way to members of Led Zeppelin. A now legendary story, Myles was asked to jam with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham for a potential project that never materialized. In 2009, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash was working on a solo project and tapped MYLES KENNEDY to do vocals on two songs on that release. That partnership would lead to Myles becoming the vocalist for his other rock band, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators. This relationship would also lead to MYLES KENNEDY singing for the iconic Guns N’ Roses at their Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction in 2012 after band founder Axl Rose was unable to attend.

Through Myles’ various projects, he has appeared on The Tonight Show; Jimmy Kimmel Live; Conan; has had music used by the WWE, Major League Baseball and NASCAR to name a few; and appeared in the motion picture Rock Star. 2018 marked a new chapter in Myles’ career when he released his long-awaited debut solo album, Year Of The Tiger, to critical and commercial success. With his new solo album, The Ides Of MarchMyles Kennedy showcases the talent that has made him one of the premier frontmen of modern music today.

News:Jack River Shares New Song/Video ‘We Are The Youth’

JACK RIVER
SHARES NEW SONG/VIDEO
‘WE ARE THE YOUTH’
I OH YOU are proud to present Jack River’s new single ‘We Are The Youth’ – a propulsive, shimmering protest anthem that forefronts a new generation of advocates and activists fighting for change.

A lifetime in the making, the track draws from Jack River’s long-held passion for climate and environmental movements. But it wasn’t until late 2019, performing at the School Strike 4 Climate rally on Gadigal land (Sydney), that inspiration struck. “I played to 80,000 young people, and I realised that I didn’t have an anthem for them, and myself – to express how we felt about the times,” says Jack River (real name Holly Rankin).

The multiple global social movements of the last 18 months – and a culmination of Holly’s experiences which include her undertaking a law degree in 2019 – made her realise it was the right time to write and release the song. “At the same time as there is widespread climate injustice, there is ongoing abuse of power on many fronts in our society: against First Nations people, in the halls of parliament, and in workplaces everywhere. People are tired of it. We want change and action, and we are ready to work to build our way out of a broken system.”

‘We Are The Youth’ bottles the moods of these movements – alongside many other campaigns led by young activists – like a lightning bolt, with lyrics that speak directly and blatantly to their urgency. “I’m tired, I’m tired of silence / I’m sick, I’m sick of violence,” Holly sings, before launching into an all-out call to arms in the chorus: “We’re gonna run through the streets tonight / We’re gonna run to the riot”.

Young activists remain front and centre in ‘We Are The Youth’s accompanying video, directed and edited by Nyikina Warrwa and Wangkumara Barkindji filmmaker Marlikka Perdrisat, alongside Holly herself. Assembled from hours of archival footage, it features global change-makers including Jean Hinchcliffe, Grace Tame, and Brittany Higgins, as well as global advocates like Amanda Gorman (US), Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim (Chad), and Autumn Peltier (Canada).

The track is framed around a girl called Annie, who represents the teens of Australia working tirelessly, “pouring their youth into fixing the issues they didn’t create” says Holly. “It’s incredible, but they shouldn’t have to carry the burden. We should be seeing our leaders doing that, working around the clock on these issues – and we’re not.”

‘We Are The Youth’ pays homage to the forebears of what Jack River terms “political pop” – artists like Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, whose music doubled as outspoken political statements. In its production – worked on in collaboration with Matt Corby and Peking Duk’s Adam Hyde, and mixed by Spike Stent (Lorde, Madonna, Beyoncé, Björk) – the result is a heady, electrifying mix of warped guitars and stomping drums that capture “the feeling of our times, like a folk song laced with acid” as River describes it.

With over 66 million streams, a Platinum, and multiple Gold singles, Jack River is a force to be reckoned with. Her debut album Sugar Mountain earned 3 x ARIA Award nominations, including Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Best Pop Release and Engineer of the Year, an AIR nomination for Best Independent Pop Album, and saw Holly nominated for Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year at the APRA Awards.

But Jack River has not only proved herself as a powerhouse musician in recent years, but as a voice for change. Last month Jack River spearheaded the ‘Our Soundtrack Our Stories’ initiative alongside ARIA after posting a now viral call-to-arms for Australian media and business to get behind homegrown music as it struggles under the pressure of a new wave of lockdowns, leading to action from Channel 7, Channel 9, Coles, 7-Eleven and Band Australia.

Earlier this year, in conjunction with the Sydney Opera House Jack River hosted an event using her platform to “pass the mic”. ‘Visions Of Us’ was an evening of music and poetry that united the voices of climate activism, First Nations leaders, and young artists. The event featured musical artists including Budjerah, and special guests Brooke Boney, Grace Tame and Kirli Saunders.

Both ‘We Are The Youth’ and its accompanying video serve as a celebration of the incredible work young people are performing all around the world, but also serves as a galvanising reminder of our collective power. “I want people to feel like this generation has their back if they’re taking urgent action” Holly says. “We’re all in this together, and every single individual’s actions matter.”

News: Emecia, Adelaide post-hardcore crew drop heavy new single/video ‘Jouska’

Post-Hardcore legends Emecia are today presenting their new single ‘Jouska’. It’s most definitely an odd title for a song, and potentially a word most will not have encountered before – though the meaning of the word is one just about everyone in existence has experienced or does daily!

A Jouska is: “…a hypothetical conversation that you play out over and over in your head. For example, replaying an argument in your head where you say all the right things and “win” the argument, or practicing asking your boss for a raise and playing out his or her responses and your comebacks.” A la George Costanza’s over-analysed “Jerk Store” comeback in Seinfeld.

The new single drops this Friday September 10th and can be pre-saved at http://ditto.fm/jouska-emecia. The track features guest vocals from Nathan Stuckey from fellow Adelaide-ians 23/19.

Vocalist Scott Middlin said that this new single is about the fact that “Nothing lasts forever: Life, Love etc. Nothing is permanent. The song is about trying to block out negative views, thoughts and trying to carry on with life, and simply appreciating everything that you already have.”

Having released their previous single Afterlives 2 months ago, the outfit received praise from the UK’s The Alt Club, with them saying that the band were like “…Blessthefall and Like Moths To Flames, Adelaide’s Emecia are a post-hardcore force to be reckoned with…the band channel every single thing that was great about the genre when it was at its peak in the 2000s. ” Hysteria Mag also said that Afterlives was “…yet another blistering blend of post-hardcore and punk-rock – huge in our books!”

The quartet debuted in 2013 with their EP ‘Pariah’, are renowned for their high-energy live show, and have honed their craft by playing countless shows locally and abroad on many tour circuits, having played alongside heavyweights such as Closure In Moscow, In Hearts Wake, Allday and Chiodos (just to mention a diverse few.)

Emecia are Scott Middlin on Vocals, Trevor Lehmann on Guitar, Nicholas Evans on Bass and Brayden McPherson on Drums.

‘Jouska’ is out Friday September 10th and can be purchased/streamed at http://ditto.fm/jouska-emecia.

News: Bullet For My Valentine Release New Single/Video ‘Shatter’ From Seventh Studio Album ‘Bullet For My Valentine’ Out October 22.

We’re very excited for you all to hear our new track “Shatter;” it’s one of our personal favourites and we’re pretty sure it’ll be one of yours! It’s an absolute sledgehammer of a track with riffs for days! Let the head banging commence!!!” – Bullet For My Valentine.

The visualiser for Shatter is a visceral and instinctive moment in the new Bullet visual era. For this project Matt Tuck collaborated with creative director, Fiona Garden, and her husband/artist, Ben Ashton (benashtonart.com).

Using tactile optical elements, smashing endless panes of glass, and getting covered in oily black paint, Matt worked hands-on with Garden & Ashton to create a physical mood both “cavernous and claustrophobic.”

Fiona Garden adds, “These hypnotic abstract visuals were then fed into the fearsome and instinctive creative machine behind “Knives” and “Parasite”: editor Sara Faulkner and VFX artist Gabriel Thomas Ayache. The clip features, as always, the design edge of Carl Addy (ulcerboy.)”

Bullet For My Valentine (the album) will be released on October 22 via Spinefarm /Search & Destroy.

“I think it’s the most ferocious side of Bullet For My Valentine that I’ve ever known,” says lead guitarist Michael “Padge” Paget. “It’s time for us to put out a really angry, heavy, aggressive record. I just can’t wait to grimace on stage!”

Matt Tuck began writing the album in September 2019 before the Coronavirus pandemic brought things screeching to a halt in early 2020. But in June 2020, Tuck and long-time producer, Carl Bown, who co-produced the band’s 2015 album, Venom, and produced and mixed Gravity, picked up the pace again. Together, they hunkered down at Treehouse Studio in Chesterfield, where the remainder of the album was written.

Pre-orders for Bullet For My Valentine‘s seventh studio album are now live, with an instant download of singles, Knives, & Parasite and special bundle options, including a unique clipping from the backdrop used on the bands Venom world tour from 2015 – 2017,  t-shirts, hoodies, gold & silver cassettes, and limited vinyl.
