My Dream Rider:  Pirra

Pirra are a quartet based in Wollongong making strikingly danceable indie-pop. Their sound mixes live instrumentation with washes of synth and programmed sounds to support the silken melodies of frontwoman Jess Beck. Since signing with UK label Cr2 Records alternative label imprint BLK&WHT RCRDS, they have teamed up with leading producers such as Konstantin Kersting (Tones & I) , Roy Kerr (London Grammar) and Sam Littlemore to work on a suite of songs.

My DREAM RIDER by Pirra

One Ex Machina style android.

Why the bloody hell not. Imagine having a beautiful android fussing over you before and after every show…..

Matching robes and slippers.

We never get many opportunities to all be wearing matching robes and slippers but my god, how are you not supposed to feel happy in matching lounge wear.

A huge oversupply of vege Nachos.

Again, it’s a feel good.

4 x Cab Charges

Just so the band can get home safe afterwards.

Tequila

Jess, our singer, is sooo much more entertaining after a little nip or two.

4 x bath towels

Because Hitchhikers Guide To the galaxy says so

6 pack of Range (hard to find) limited release tinnies.

Just so we can distract our drummer from doing any press

A small fire pit with complementary marshmallows

All the band members grew up in the country and have a thing about it.

One Reggie Watts

Funniest man alive!

Spare drum sticks

Obvious reasons….

The plug: Everything that you’d like to plug re: new releases, links to music and any show dates and info

Pirra is James McKendry (guitar, synth), Jess Beck (vocals), Curtis Argent(bass, synth) and Jeffrey Argent (drums)

My Dream Rider: Ella Sweeny

Melbourne artist Ella Sweeney has  released her self-titled debut EP, which was recorded and mixed by Jono Steer at The Perch Recording Studio (Gretta Ray, Angie McMahon, Ali Barter).

The EP draws on influences from Feist, Sharon Van Etten, Cate Le Bon & Julia Jacklin, to name a few, and shares coming-of-age tales with songs that are warm, a tiny bit sad, sarcastic and at times excitable; all the things that shouldn’t fit together, but sometimes do.

Ella says of lead single ‘Five Year Plans (Ten Step Dances)’, “This song is about crushes. Written the month before the pandemic hit, it is a youthful take on feeling as if anything – love included – can be planned. 2020 certainly had other plans.”

Describing the EP, “These four tracks are musings on coming of age (Growing Pains), staying afloat (Ode To Getting By), big ol’ romantic crushes (Five Year Plans, Ten Step Dances) and the men who come into the book store with beanies rolled above their ears, asking me to point them in the direction of a Jordan Peterson book (Modern Man)

Evidently youthful, they mark a period of fumbling into my twenties with a lack of grace. Alternatively: coming of age in the Anthropocene.”

My Dream Rider by Ella Sweeney

1. Family bags of Chicken Twisties. Don’t argue that Cheese flavoured Twisties are better. Save your breath.

2. 4 copies of Zadie Smith’s Intimations. One for each band member. We can read, laugh and admire pre- and post-performance.

3. An abundance of D grade champagne.

4. A bowl of brown M&Ms. I read somewhere that Van Halen used to request bowls of M&Ms WITHOUT brown ones included. I would like all of those missing brown chocolates. Bring back the fallen soldiers.

5. 32 guinea pigs. Don’t ask questions. I love guinea pigs.

6. The man who sings ‘Chocolate Rain’ (Tay Zonday) standing in the corner to recite the song 5 times over before we/I perform. Just to remember that life does not need to be so serious. See:https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA

7. Full length flannelette pyjamas with clocks printed on them. I had a pair throughout my teenage years and vowed that I would one day perform in them. They are now lost. I would love to reclaim a pair to wear on stage. Comfort first.

8. 15 pan fried vegetarian dumplings.

9. Tamagotchi’s. Four. One for each band member.

10. Really awkward plastic top hats. Preferably purple; preferably with diamantes on them. I really love an awkward hat.

Having previously warmed the stage for artists such as Didirri, Gretta Ray and Alice Ivy, she’s ready to take to the stage once again and to celebrate the release of the debut EP, Ella has a run of headline shows lined up.

News:NICHOLAS HAMILTON SHARES NEW SINGLE & VIDEO PRETTY YOUNG + ANNOUNCES DEBUT EP PRETTY YOUNG SET FOR AUGUST 13 RELEASE

Renowned actor and musician Nicholas Hamilton, known for his work in IT, IT: Chapter Two and Captain Fantastic, has today announced his nostalgic new single and self-made video, Pretty Young, a reflective, thoughtful track about holding on to memories of childhood, out today. Pretty Young precedes Nicholas Hamilton’s debut EP of the same name – a stunning, mature collection of pop songs that explore the experiences of a dedicated young artist, a move half-way across the globe, and the coming-of-age that every person moving through their late teens into their early twenties experiences. The EP is out August 13 and is available for pre-order now.

Produced by Joe Marson and Arthur Pingrey (Sia, Sting), Pretty Young is a sweet, wistful tune – evocative of John Mayer, Niall Horan and Lukas Graham, but like everything he does, there is something truly unique to Nicholas Hamilton at the core of this track. His assured, idiosyncratic vocal is the star of Pretty Young, with sentimental lyrics detailing the progression of time as seen through a young adult’s eyes, while gentle, intricate production shapes the rest of the track with pretty acoustic guitar, all-encompassing choral vocals and quietly confident percussion. Speaking on the inspiration behind Pretty Young, Nicholas explains, “I remember feeling pretty down when I wrote the first stanza. It was one of those days where you just cry behind a piano and hope a song comes out. There was a moment where I realised how silly it was for me to be writing a song about my childhood, when I definitely wouldn’t consider myself an adult yet…That’s how the second stanza came about, starting with “and I’m still pretty young”. I drew the rest of the lyrics from a tonne of childhood memories I thought I’d forgotten, and recent memories I hope I don’t forget.” And the video for Pretty Young is sure to draw a smile, loaded with adorable home videos from his childhood, this is definitely one that will keep the many fans from Nicholas’ acting world happy.

Like the single, the entire Pretty Young EP is painted with nostalgia. Youth, homesickness, late nights, ill-fated relationships – they’re all themes explored on this clever collection of songs. The Pretty Young EP is a unique flavour of acoustic pop, with each track contributing something new and exciting to Nicholas’ discography. From the powerful, momentous single In Line, to the gentle pervasiveness of Different Year, to the stunning duet noRoom, Pretty Young is an impressive body of work, as Nicholas explains, “The EP is really a diary of my life up until this point. The oldest song on there is two and a half years old, the youngest is under a year old, but all five songs really encapsulate my entire 21 years of life… it feels incredibly intimate to be putting it out for everyone’s ears to hear. I love that, by the way. Some part of me gets a rush out of everyone knowing who I am, about the intricacies of my life, not the characters I’ve played.”

Juggling an established acting career alongside a burgeoning music career is no small feat, but Nicholas Hamilton takes it all in his stride. After relocating back to his hometown of Byron Bay only two months ago after several years working as an actor in Los Angeles, Nicholas just this week unexpectedly relocated back to LA to pursue some exciting new acting projects. Not only does he have an EP coming up, he will also feature in upcoming TV and film projects, as he explains, “I grew up in Byron, but moved to LA before I started releasing music, so I was very lucky to have some time – however short that may have been – to be a Byron musician for the first time. It’s just made me even more excited to move back to LA for the music opportunities that might arise there now, as Covid restrictions start to ease and live music becomes more prevalent. Just because I’m a musician now doesn’t mean I’m not still an actor, either! I’ve got a few projects either filming or coming out by the end of the year that I’m hoping can work in tandem with my music. The aim is to be both a musician and an actor, so we’ll see how that goes.”

Pretty Young (single) is out now. Pretty Young (EP) is set for release on August 13 – pre-order here.

News: RYAN MEEKING ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE & VIDEO ENDLESS RUN

Melbourne’s newest indie pop master Ryan Meeking has today shared his fresh cinematic single Endless Run. An evocative work, set within the joyous bloom of festival party culture, Endless Run is rich with euphoric abandon. Its visceral, multi-layered rhythm celebrates a summer to end all summers, its engaging lyrics highlighting the intense relationships that follow.

Meeking has released a stunningly bold video to accompany the track, inspired by human movement and directed by filmmaker and photographer Rick Clifford (Ainslie Wills, Bad Pony, Tori Forsyth). After having his music featured on massive television shows such as Suits, So You Think You Can Dance USA and Teen Wolf, Ryan Meeking (Whitaker, Gossling) is moving from one musical world to the next with this standout pop gem. And he’ll be celebrating the release with a launch show at Small Time (Brunswick) on August 12, tickets are available now.

Endless Run feels like just like its namesake – an infinite, beautiful journey into the unknown, characterised by an undeniable groove; Meeking’s cool, calm voice; clever melodies; and sharp, concise production. The track has influences of Jack Garrett, Gotye, and Benee, but feels particularly unique to Meeking and speaks to years spent intently, passionately studying pop writing. Co-produced and engineered by Sam Swain (Josh Cashman, Obscura Hail) and mastered by Randy Merrill (Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber), Endless Run is a heady, all-encompassing track. Meeking explains: “You’re in the festival crowd. Drink it in. Your friends, thousands of others, the music, the party, the complete loss of any sense of time and space – and who cares: the community in that. Everything is now, everything is amazing and its just the beginning. Welcome to your Endless Run.”

The video for Endless Run is a brilliant spectacle of light and movement, somehow both nostalgic and futuristic all at once. Meeking dances alone in this colourful world, and the result is hypnotic. Speaking on how the clip was developed – Meeking explains, “We knew we wanted to place the clip in a ‘nowhere’ space, an unnatural world created especially for the audience – like all my new music to come – so we took a risk on a rare new piece of lighting tech to get us there and it totally paid off. In fact, it really took on a character and life of its own. This is also the first time I’ve worked on music and really thought about how it sat in my body, so we went through a bunch of ideas on how to put human movement at the centre of the clip. In the end, nothing made more sense than what you see. A peppering of strange sci-fi vibes, some Rick Clifford magic, and we had a clip for Endless Run.”

Endless Run is another stellar addition to Ryan Meeking’s glowing and diverse discography, one which demonstrates his lifelong pursuit of music and art, and dedication to his craft, as he describes, “I talk a lot about music production because it’s something I’m incredibly drawn to, but nothing matters to me more than the song. So making music is always a balance between these two elements. My affinity with music started with my grandparents’ piano and took root in the theatre, watching family perform in musicals like Les Misérables. Something about that art form stuck with me – the bare, honest storytelling set to intricate, clever composition – music that doesn’t hold back. I don’t write for the theatre, but those qualities are something I’ve never escaped chasing in my own music. I guess I always think, ‘Why limit anything if the song can carry it?’ Making Endless Run was no exception.”

Endless Run is out July 14.

News: U.D.O Releases New Single, Metal Never Dies. New Album, Game Over, Coming October 21

U.D.O.
Releases New Single, “Metal Never Dies“
New Album, Game Over, Coming October 21
“Game Over!“ – that’s what rock icon Udo Dirkschneider (original voice of iconic band Accept) proclaims on his upcoming new U.D.O. record to be released in autumn, specifically on October 22, 2021.

The statement behind has got many different meanings. But one thing becomes clear immediately: U.D.O. is not doing things by halves and so they give everything they have. During hundreds of shows worldwide, some of them in the most remote places of Russia and South-America, the band has become one unit and a conglomerate of passionate musicians and friends. Each of them knows exactly, when and how to play his instrument to match to the sound of the band perfectly.

Songs like “Metal Never Dies“, “Kids And Guns“ or “Prophecy“ are precise, powerful, catchy and bursting of energy. And most notably they are: timeless. All the songs on this record feature a distinctive character, that convinces today as well as it will convince tomorrow.

Today he convinces with the brand-new single “Metal Never Dies“ which comes with a energetic performance clip of the legendary singer & band. “Metal Never Dies” is a teutonic Metal hymn from the reigning king of German heavy metal with those infectious and memorable melodic guitar riffs and with a brilliant chorus that metal fans will sing for years.
And why “Game Over!“? Udo Dirkschneider strikes a sour note on this opus. He is not so much into embellishment. If mankind does not rethink several aspects, it may have fatal consequences. For example “Kids And Guns“ is about the increasing number of gun possession in the USA and the associated shootings, that do not stop at nothing and do harm to schools and especially kids.

Without question – Udo Dirkschneider is a cosmopolitan and he sees the world in it’s entity. Therefore „Game Over“ has become an international production with and huge amount of greatness.
