News: ADELAIDE’S INDIE POP-ROCK QUINTET, BROKEN WAVESTODAY RELEASE THEIR DEBUT EP, TURNING POINT

ADELAIDE’S INDIE POP-ROCK QUINTET, BROKEN WAVES TODAY RELEASE THEIR DEBUT EP, TURNING POINT.

Broken Waves today release their debut EP, Turning Point, representing a determined focus on honest and darker lyricism, with the EP engaging in a broad range of socially driven topics across politics and mental health.

Turning Point is at its core an EP about us growing up and finding out who the band areas a collective and individuals, working through what they want to say with their music.

Each song occupies a very different sonic world but it’s all tied together with a newfound emotional intensity and lyrical themes of wanting something better for society and the world. Every track captures a different aspect of their experience with becoming adults.

“I feel like the varied styles we explore perfectly express the chaos of life” said the Brokens Waves’ bass player and vocalist, Ben Lyons –Reid“The progression from the start to the end is oddly coherent, starting with the dance, synth-wave single ‘Drag Me Back’ and then growing into a more serious set of songs with the following three tracks, bringing a deeper level of lyricism and instrumentation.”

“Each song on the EP definitely has its own unique and individual a story, with a common theme of ‘coming of age’ throughout the record and I think that comes across strongly when listening start to finish,” said lead Guitarist, Will Physentzou

Two singles have already released from the EP, including the lavishly electro-funk track, Drag Me Back, which embellishes the groups strong synth-wave foundation with upbeat tropical ambiences; and Throne, which was loosely inspired by the death of Socrates and broadly referencing the many individuals throughout history who were never accepted in their own time but became legends after their death.

With Ben Lyons -Reid (Bass and Vocals), Declan Oetjen (Rhythm Guitar), Will Physentzou (Lead Guitar), Heath Oetjen (Drums) and Matt Evans (Keys), the group have been eagerly building their foundation in the Adelaide music scene and are ready to make a splash with their debut EP ‘Turning Point.

After receiving a Project and Developments grant from Carclew, the band has spent the better half of last year recording and preparing ‘Turning Point’ at Wizard Tone Studios and was mixed by James Brown and mastered by Jarrad Payne. To celebrate the release of their debut EP, Broken Waves are premiere ‘Turning Point’ live with an EP Launch at The Lab, Adelaide on April 10th

News: Crypt Crawler release new single/ title track from their upcoming album ‘Future Usurper’

Western Australian Death Metal voyagers Crypt Crawler announce the release of their second full-length album entitled ‘Future Usurper’. Accompanied by the title track and first single off the album which hits streaming platforms April 2nd. ‘Future Usurper’ reflects a dystopian world where leaders control civilization to the absolute extreme. It talks of ideas about overbearing control in the future, rewiring human thoughts and emotions. It’s also a slap to the face slice of death metal blending in elements of the old school with current day brutal force.

Crypt Crawler have been working away, building a solid reputation and fan base over the last couple of years in our country’s west. They pull old school death metal vibes and traditional tones together with a modern approach.

They write well-crafted death metal with intelligent concepts and themes within their lyrics. It’s a brutal, dirty and grimy as f@#k blend of elements reaching into the most primal corners of a death metal fans blackened soul.

While they are yet to tour at a national level with their plans to do so held back by the pandemic, they’ve still managed to turn heads on a national basis. Having already infiltrated the airwaves on Triple’s J’s The Racket among many other national heavy radio shows following the release of their debut album ‘To The Grave’ (2019) and EP’ Blood Sustenance’ (2020). From packing shows in the west to appearing on heavy festival bills like Slayfest and Metal United Down Under.

Crypt Crawler have been making their mark, forging a path built on the back of their own hard work, and it’s only a matter of time before they start pushing it further around the country.

Their new album’ Future Usurper’ comes out on Wednesday, June the 2nd, but for now bang your heads to the first taste of the album under the same title and get in quick to preorder a copy.

News: ULTIMATE AUSSIE ALT ROCK FESTIVAL SPRING LOADED SET TO THRILL AUS WITH NINE COLOSSAL SHOWS IN 2021

ULTIMATE AUSSIE ALT ROCK FESTIVAL

SPRING LOADED SET TO THRILL AUS WITH NINE COLOSSAL SHOWS IN 2021

After the blockbuster success of the inaugural festival in Queensland pre-covid, Empire Touring is elated to announce Spring Loaded is back and larger than ever, declaring a triumphant return to live music with nine festival dates set to rock around Australia in a bid to pay homage to some of the country’s most beloved festivals gone by including Big Day Out and Homebake. With a colossal lineup dripping in 90s Aussie alt rock nostalgia, 2021’s shows boast a haul of the decade’s most celebrated acts, including Grinspoon, You Am I, Regurgitator, Jebediah, Magic Dirt, Frenzal Rhomb, Custard, The Fauves, The Meanies, Tumbleweed, Screamfeeder, Caligula and MC Lindsay ‘The Doctor’ McDougall.

Set to kick off in Sydney On The Lawn at Royal Randwick on May 8, the massive festival will then head up to Cairns, before moving on to Sandstone Point Hotel Bribie Island, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Darwin Amphitheatre, Gosford Entertainment Grounds, Stuart Park Wollongong, Red Hill Auditorium in Perth and will wrap in Victoria on November 27.

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday March 24 at 10am local time.

Thrilled to be on the bill, You Am I’s Tim Roger’s explains, “It’s kinda unavoidable that nostalgia surrounds these shows, but the past year I’ve heard new music from most of our friends here that is as vital and visceral as any they’ve done in the past, which makes these potential shows all the more thrilling.” Not one to mince words, Rogers goes on to offer some solid tips for punters, ordering, “Dress up, turn up, muck up!”

Stoked at the opportunity to get the band back together after what was a long 2020 for everyone the world over, Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson says, “I’m terribly excited to be playin’ with Grinspoon at Spring Loaded. Since FireFight we have barely stepped onto stage, let alone seen each other.”

The man who masterminded this bodacious opportunity for us all to relive our youth and celebrate the return of live music, Empire’s Marc Christowski says, “Having been at various Big Day Outs and Homebakes over the years, it is a massive buzz for us to produce Spring Loaded. Bringing together such an amazing lineup that will go to every corner of the country, flying the flag of indie rock is a dream come true.”

Covering all bases, the festival will be bustling with craft beer and an enviable collection of the locale’s cherry-picked food trucks. Spring Loaded is a fully licensed 18+ event, strictly no BYO food or alcohol. The shows are outdoor concerts and will go ahead rain, hail or shine. No tables, tents, sun shelters or umbrellas are permitted, punters are urged to bring ponchos/raincoats and gumboots if rain is forecast. Picnic rugs and low camp chairs are permitted, as are sealed bottles of water, and there will be water refill stations. And this killer event will be taken indoors to Adelaide – expect all the festival vibes with no weather issues.

After an unprecedented write off for live music in 2020, don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the return of the festival and the greatest era of the indie alt rock scene in Australia, and come and relive the soundtrack of your youth live at Spring Loaded in 2021.

Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday March 24 at 10am local time, with a presale offered to Telstra customers from Thursday March 18 at 10am local time to Sunday March 21 at 10pm AEDT. There will be a My Ticketek and Oztix presale from Monday March 22 at 10am local time. News: Dr. Colossus Release New Single ‘Pickabar’ and announce New Album and East Coast Tour.

Melbourne’s greatest Springfieldian doom band Dr. Colossus return with the release of their second full-length album entitled ‘I’m A Stupid Moron With An Ugly Face And A Big Butt And My Butt Smells And I Like To Kiss My Own Butt’ to be released in full on May 26th. Yes, you read that correctly, and along with the announcement of the new album, the guys will playing a select run of shows in support of it all. This first single off the upcoming album ‘Pickabar’ speaks the story of when Homer forgets to pick Bart up from soccer practice, something we can all relate to, no doubt.

Dr Colossus ‘Pickabar”

As you may have already picked it, Dr. Colossus is not your average doom band. They are fully committed to writing entire albums with their lyrical themes based directly on Simpsons episodes, and they don’t stop there. Along with big meaty down-tuned riffs, they bring a complete theatrical experience to their live shows with stage props, donning the outfits of the Stonecutters all combined with their outlandish onstage antics; it’s not just a gig but a full-on experience.

They’re a band that takes, not taking themselves too seriously, very seriously, and while they approach it all with a little tongue & cheek attitude, sonically, they back what they are doing in a big way. These are serious players who know how to write interesting, dynamic and progressive doom infused rock. The quality of production and vibe they create has earned them a solid reputation and following among the heavy community seeing gain attention on international levels.

They’ve shared stages with the likes of Red Fang, Acid King, Brant Bjork, Beastwars and more. In 2017 they teamed up with USA Ned Flanders themed heavy act “Okilly Dokilly” for a solid Australian/ New Zealand tour seeing them hitting bigger venues and taking the theatrical stage show to new heights. The full album is to be released on May 26th with tickets to the shows and pre-order bundles available now.

2) Artists will donate signed guitars, merch and other rare items which will be sold via a special Reverb shop to benefit Jason.

Event co-organizer Herman Li says, “I’ve been a huge fan of Jason Becker since I was young, and it’s one of the biggest honors of my life to be able to help organize this tribute and raise money for him. I still have a Jason Becker poster in my studio in London. It’s been very inspiring to see everyone coming together to celebrate Jason.”

Jason Becker says, “I am so grateful for all the love and support everyone has given to me and my family. As far as selling my guitars being sad, and that I shouldn’t have to do it, I just want you to know that isn’t how I feel. It makes me happy to see others playing my music. I feel good about passing on my guitars, thinking they mean something to others. I can’t play them now, but other folks can. That’s a good thing. And, I want myself and my family not to have to worry about money, if possible. Thank you for all the love, I send it right back to you.”

My Dream Rider: PARKER

Sure! I’m Tash Parker, a visual artist and musician living in Launceston Tasmania. I’ve been releasing electronic art pop music under the name PARKER for the past 2 years.

1. I have always dreamed of a greenroom where the walls and ceiling are filled with glow in the stars so when we turn out the lights it feels like I’m camping. Always good to ground the nerves when you are reminded of the massiveness of our galaxy and how teeny tiny we are.
2. A jungle of indoor plants for me to chat to before the show. They are the best pre-show companions because they are really good listeners and are not afraid of silence.
3. A tea master to serve matcha and delicious cacao treats to help wake us up before the show
4. A spread of delicious tasmanian grown produce to fuel us up with healthy fresh food.
5. The delivery of amazing leotards and accessories made by Michelle Boyde to wear for our pre-show aerobics class.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BmTAa2bjHTb/?igshid=16uintgbcg1bh

6. Jamie Lee Curtis to run an aerobics workout class so we can get pumped up and burn off the pre show jitters.

7. Mary Latimore playing harp for the 3omins before we go onstage to calm our nerves.

8. A post show sound bath and guided meditation for all performers and crew. Because we need to be supporting our music industry worker’s physical and mental health more.
9. Mocktails made from the finest rare fruits and maybe a mushroom tea to help the stars twinkle.
10. Fancy robes for everyone to wear because wearing a fancy robe makes you feel fancy.
