News: Evanescence Release New Single ‘Better Without You’. ‘The Bitter Truth’ Out March 26.

Evanescence is out today with Better Without You, the next official single from their upcoming album The Bitter Truth (Sony Music Australia), out March 26, their first of all-new music in ten years.

An f-you to the forces that have attempted to hold her back, Better Without You is bandleader Amy Lee’s unapologetic declaration of independence. With mammoth vocals and a metal heart, the song follows previous singles Wasted On You and Use My Voice.

Better Without You was teased with an interactive digital puzzle that fans were challenged to solve in order to hear a snippet of the song. Watch this space for more surprises in store leading up to The Bitter Truth.

Pre-order a digital version, CD or 2LP vinyl here

A limited edition deluxe fan box set featuring a bonus CD, journal, poster and special cassette of exclusive audio from the making of The Bitter Truth is also available exclusively internationally here.

About The Bitter Truth:

The Bitter Truth is an epic, band-driven collection inspired by struggle, loss and overcoming within the (often bitter) realities of the 21st century and our world. The band’s first original LP in ten years and since singer Amy Lee began a family, it’s a return-to-force – and one hell of a rock and roll album. The already-released songs have received early accolades from Elle, Billboard, SPIN, American Songwriter, and more, and showcase the “ferocious and hymnal” (The New York Times) sound that made Evanescence a household name, as well as the drama and powerhouse vocals that made Amy Lee “one of rock’s definitive voices” (Rolling Stone).
About Evanescence:

Two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning Evanescence has made an impact on people around the world. The group’s 2003 landmark debut album Fallen laid the foundation spending 43 weeks on the Billboard Top 10 and selling more than 17 million copies worldwide. Debut single and global hit Bring Me to Life reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked their first U.K. #1 hit single. The equally popular My Immortal peaked at #7 in the U.S. and U.K. Following multiple worldwide tours, The Open Door came next, which went on to sell more than five million copies followed by the self-titled Evanescence which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Charts. Evanescence lead singer-songwriter and pianist Amy Lee, bassist Tim McCord, drummer Will Hunt, lead guitarist Troy McLawhorn, and guitarist and backing vocalist Jen Majura went down both very new and familiar paths for their fourth and most ambitious release to date, Synthesis, in 2017 via BMG. The symphonic effort scored four Billboard #1s, debuting atop the Independent, Alternative, Rock, and Classical Album Charts. Evanescence launched their worldwide Synthesis Live tour in October 2017 combining their intense live performances and timeless songwriting with a powerful live orchestra.

News: The Mars Volta Announce The ‘La Realidad De Los Sueños’ Box Set & ‘Landscape Tantrums’ (Unfinished Original Recordings Of De-Loused In The Comatorium)

We are excited to announce a very special vinyl release, all studio albums and EPs by the critically acclaimed iconic duo that is The Mars Volta. It is the release fans have been anticipating for years, including the myth-shrouded LANDSCAPE TANTRUMS – the original unfinished recordings of De-Loused in the Comatorium. The remastered box-set is limited to 5000 copies worldwide and includes an exclusive photo book of behind the scenes photos with accompanying text spanning the bands career and 2 collectible pin-badges.

LA REALIDAD DE LOS SUEÑOS means “the reality of dreams” – and there is no title more fitting for this unbelievable box-set. This represents a dream come true for the many loyal fans of alternative rock giants, The Mars Volta, across the world. Working intimately with Omar Rodríguez-Lopéz, Clouds Hill has brought out an all-encompassing and wonderfully designed vinyl box-set.

The box-set includes 18 LPs (180 grams, black vinyl) & is available to pre-order from March, 5th 2021 with a release date of April, 23rd 2021. The vinyl only set contains the debut EP TREMULANT (2002) and the six studio albums from DE-LOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM (2003) and FRANCES THE MUTE (2005) through to their last work NOCTOURNIQUET (2012). Everything has been newly remastered specifically for vinyl by Chris von Rautenkranz. And you can hear the difference: Chris explains, “We have taken care to give the sound more space. To make it sound more lively and organic than the original, which was mastered for digital formats.”

We said “all-encompassing”: the thing about this box-set is that it includes the first ever release of recordings that fans of the band have long seen as The Mars Volta “holy grail” – shrouded in myth and rumour: do they exist? If so, where are they kept? Who is keeping them? And will we ever be able to listen to them? Well, now, we can!

This mythological beast, the unfinished original recordings of De-Loused in the Comatorium, is known as LANDSCAPE TANTRUMS. It was created when the band recorded previous versions of the pieces that Rick Rubin later produced for DELOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM. Omar Rodríguez-López kept the master tapes of these sessions under lock and key, but now he has given them the green light for release. “It is the right time, to open these recordings up to the public”, he says. “As a work of art in its own right, this set also needs to be seen as the end of a story.”

The recording of LANDSCAPE TANTRUMS reveals a sound that is more raw, more emotional, more tightly coiled. “Anyone listening to these tracks will get a glimpse into that time, into Omar’s soul” explains Johann Scheerer from Clouds Hill, who produced the box set in collaboration with Omar. Rodríguez-López responded to the end of his post-hardcore band, At The Drive-In by founding The Mars Volta, but the LANDSCAPE TANTRUMS sessions reveal a confidence and sensitivity that brings this legacy into The Mars Volta. “It is a central part of the band’s history” reports Johann Scheerer, “the recordings prove just how much this band had to share, even so soon after its founding. But they also show just how much force this music could have if you didn’t have a producer like Rick Rubin behind the mixing desk.”

This is not to take away from Rubin’s contribution. Listening to DE-LOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM as remastered for vinyl reveals just how this “Rubin spirit” drove the band forward, particularly in how vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala found his voice, and how Omar developed so much self-confidence in his working with Rubin that he produced the subsequent masterpiece FRANCES THE MUTE on his own, complete with the sounds and structures that remain hard to believe to this day. For everyone who can’t get enough of DE- LOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM sessions, the recordings of the two ‘lost songs’ A Plague Upon Your Hissing Children and Eunuch Provocateur are being released in this box set for the first time. Included in this fabulously designed set is also a hardcover book specially put together by Omar Rodríguez-López and the Clouds Hill team with unpublished ‘behind the scenes’ photographs from their early days. The photos bring us into a world of a band that put everything it had into its music – recognizing LA REALIDAD DE LOS SUEÑOS… the reality of dreams.

Live Review: Boo Seeka

Boo Seeka

The Esplanade Hotel, St Kilda

There is a cool breeze blowing in from the Bay, the streets are lined with eager ticket holders, all cramming in to see Boo Seeka. As the iconic Gershwin Room fills up, its been a while since duo Ben and Mikey have graced the stage in Melbourne.

Opening the set with ‘Oh My’ the crowd erupts into a sea of smiles, pure joy that can’t be tamed or harnessed; the energy in the room as strangers become friends is palpable, and the boys know how to work the room Ben Gumbleton entrances the crowd with his signature moves, the stage his dance floor, the audience mesmerized.

Having released a number of new singles last year, the band are finally able to play them in front of Melbourne fans for the first time. ‘ Never Enough’, ‘ Rush’Days Get Better’ and ‘ Millennium Drive’ sounding exceptional as they play them alongside old favorites ‘ Kingdom Leader’ and          ‘ Humans’.

Percussionist Mikey May clearly enjoying himself, an infectious smile plastered across his face for the entire set, a contagious joy that lights up the room. He runs across the stage, reaching out to fans, passing around a half- drunken wine bottle and spreading joy. Its this kind of stage interaction that make the band so popular, they have an air of not taking themselves too seriously, yet produce a well structured set at the same time.

Calling for the house lights to dim, front man Ben Gumbleton asks the crowd to turn on their mobile phone torches in what becomes a dark moody atmosphere for ‘ Turn Up Your Light’ and for almost four minutes the crowd sway in unison with Ben.

The evening is coming to a close, and as the crowd dance away the last year of missing gigs,  not being able to hug friends and being isolated, Ben and Mikey have bought everyone together for a night of unadulterated bliss, and for this one crowded hour the past is forgotten and we all smile and dance,  united in a love for Boo Seeka.

News: The Indigoes release new single ‘She’

‘She’ is the melody stuck in your head all night long’

Coming off their debut single ‘By Your Side’, The Indigos are back with a new, hard hitting release, ‘She’. This incendiary tune sweats guitar riffs and bleeds fiery vocals.

In late 2020, The Indigos burst onto the scene with their tender ballad ‘By Your Side’. Their debut single received national radio coverage and was described as “absolute magic” by Triple J’s Nkechi Anele. The Indigo’s are back with their second independently produced single, set to release on 5/3/2021. After months of lockdown in Melbourne kept The Indigos apart, ‘She’ is the perfect song to experience the joys of playing loud and raunchy rock music together again… very loud. ‘She’ is the perfect way to shed the loneliness of 2020 and kick back into action. Frontman Kieran Rule screams his heart out in this bedroom recording with vocals that will rip a hole in your speaker. Lead guitarist, Arthur Xafis, showcases roaring riffs soaked in fuzz.

A departure from the lush sounds of their debut single, ‘She’ is a fast-paced rock song that showcases the extraordinary dynamism of The Indigos. Revolving heavily around fiercely intense vocals and fiery guitar riffs, ‘She’ was written for anyone that’s had their head turned inside-out by a relationship and just wants to get up and scream it out.

Inspired by the lyricism and guitar-driven sounds of Australian artists like Spacey Jane, Angie McMahon, and Hockey Dad, The Indigos’ second single, ‘She’,  shows Australia their extraordinary range. Formed in 2020 by like-minded collaborators, the Melbourne outfit consists of singer and guitarist, Kieran Rule; guitarist, Arthur Xafis; drummer, Albert Rolfe; and bassist, Olivia Bolmat. The writing members, Xafis and Rule, met while studying Jazz at Monash University and bonded over a love of the great rock, blues, and folk songwriters of the past. They cemented their musical partnership whilst performing in a Janis Joplin tribute show, which won an award at The Adelaide Fringe Festival. The two collaborated as a duo for the first time during Melbourne’s 112 day lockdown, writing, recording and producing their debut single ‘By Your Side’ from separate sides of the isolated city. These two-of-a-kind musicians are putting a modern twist on the great songwriters of the past.

News: Dean Lewis Releases New Single ‘Falling Up’; Global Video Premiere Tomorrow on YouTube

DEAN LEWIS
NEW SINGLE ‘FALLING UP’ OUT TODAY
GLOBAL VIDEO PREMIERE TOMORROW at 7.30am (AEDT)
on YOUTUBE

LDN 5/3 @8.30am GMT | NYC 5/3 @3.30pm EST |LA 5/3 @12.30pm PST | TOKYO 6/3 @5.30am JST

Award winning singer-songwriter Dean Lewis returns with his brand-new single, ‘Falling Up’, the lead single from Lewis’s hotly anticipated second album. Emotive, impactful, relatable and impossible to forget, it’s a masterclass in what the songwriter does best: connect.

The official video for ‘Falling Up’ will premiere globally tomorrow on Dean Lewis’s official YouTube channel at 7.30am (AEDT) from here. Dean will join fans from 7.10am AEDT for a live Q and A before the video is revealed.

In a period when we’re all stuck in shrinking rooms feeling isolated, when claustrophobia – actual, social and otherwise – is real and widespread, ‘Falling Up’ is the perfect song for the times.

In writing the song Lewis keyed into lifelong feelings of frustration and anxiety. “I always thought I would be happy when I finished school or when I passed an exam, or I got a job or a promotion or if I went travelling and then I was like – ‘ooh, now I have a record deal, what if I have a big song?  Then, I had a big song, and I was on the road for three years and when I stopped, I realised it had all passed me by and I was actually less present and more anxious and stressed than ever.  I looked back on my life and at all of these points along the way and I realised that I’ve never felt any better, it’s always been onto the next thing, always moving.”

The lyrics paint a picture of a man in despair: “I’m alone in the spotlight / And the walls are caving in / And I thought I’d be happy / But I’m barely breathing.”

“Those lyrics are about being online and focusing on that one negative comment in a sea of good,” Lewis explains. “You feel the negativity and it affects your life and I took it on, and I found myself feeling more and more anxious and isolated. I really struggle with that.”

Suffice it to say that ‘Falling Up’ is a bold sign of things to come. It is, once more, a jaw-dropping encapsulation of the rare skills of Dean Lewis: to make the personal universal, the singular relatable, and the inner thoughts the most accessible.

The three-time ARIA and APRA award winning Lewis went from unknown to world-wide recognition with the release of his 2019 #1 ARIA Album A Place We Knew. Accredited Platinum in Australia, the LP produced a number of local and international smashes including his debut single the 7 x Platinum ‘Waves’, the monster global hit and 10 x Platinum ‘Be Alright’, and the 3 x Platinum selling singles ‘7 Minutes’ and 2 x Platinum single ‘Stay Awake.’ His debut album is also GOLD in the USA, Silver in the UK and platinum+ in 8 other countries. Waves has also reached Gold status in the US.  But it was ‘Be Alright’ which would drive Lewis’ career even further, catapulting his music to the world stage and contributing to his music accumulating over 4.8 billion streams globally.

‘Be Alright’ spent 5 weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart, 8 weeks at #1 on TMN Hot 100 Radio Chart and earned Dean entry into the prestigious APRA AMCOS ‘Billion Streams’ Club, winner of the 2018 ARIA Video of the Year Award and becoming Apple’s Up Next Artist. It was voted as #6 on triple j’s Hottest 100 and was the 4th highest selling single (2nd Australian Artist) in Australia for 2018.  Globally, ‘Be Alright’ is triple platinum in the USA and it hit #1 on Billboard’s emerging artist chart and has been accredited Platinum + in 23 other countries.

A Place We Knew in its first week, skyrocketed #1 on the ARIA Album Chart, was chosen as triple j’s feature album and debuted #1 iTunes Singer/Songwriter Album Charts.  Around the world it debuted #18 on the Billboard Top 200 in the USA, as well as a Top 5 Billboard Pop Album and it reached the Top 10 in New Zealand (#7), Top 20 in Switzerland (#11), Canada (#15) and Ireland (#20) and Top 30 in Norway (#25), Belgium (#30), Netherlands (#21) and Top 40 in Germany (#32), Sweden (#37) and the UK (#37). The multi-selling album won Dean the 2019 ARIA Album of the Year and Best Male Artist Awards as well as the 2019 APRA Awards for Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year and Outstanding International Achievement Award.

Touring locally and overseas, Dean has performed at International Festivals such as Reeperbahn Festival, Lollapalooza, Great Escape, Isle of Wight, the Main Stage at Splendour In The Grass and events such as the Australian Open Tennis, AFL Grand Final, 2019 Melbourne Cup Carnival. He sold out his 2019 Australian National Tour as well as his USA Tour, performing over 200 shows in that year. Dean was the first artist to perform live on The Project Australia and appeared on US shows Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel and Good Morning America.

My Dream Rider: The Indigos

Hailing from Melbourne, The Indigos are a new indie rock outfit that are here to stay. Formed in 2020 by like-minded collaborators, Kieran Rule and Arthur Xafis, these two-of-a-kind musicians are putting a modern twist on the great rock, blues, and folk songwriters of the past.

The concept of the dream rider has long been discussed between the two of us so we’ll try not to ramble on too long. The first thing to consider with a dream rider is ‘what is this dream gig that’s providing us such indulgences?’… Of course our dream rider can only be fulfilled at our dream gig: Headlining Woodstock on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in the Fall of 1969. We have travelled back in time and somehow managed to land a set somewhere between CCR and Janis Joplin, 1:30am on the first night. All of the other artists in the tent are strangely snacky, so let’s start there.

A snack table for all of our dear friends to enjoy from Canned Heat’s Alan Willson to The Band’s Rick Danko. The finest selection of futuristic processed foods at our behest. Nacho Cheese Flavoured Doritos, a Smiths chips packet of each kind (bar-salt and vinegar), those new Shapes flavours that taste unnervingly similar to the thing they’re recreating. All go down a treat for our fellow artists that keep saying their mouths are dry… Let’s fix that.

Whilst neither of us are huge drinkers, we’re at Woodstock, it’s the right time to crack one open. And again we wonder, how would Jimi Hendrix’s Star Spangled Banner have sounded if he had the chance to partake in the indulgently sweet alcoholic beverages of the distant future. As he swaggers into the tent we hand him one of our Mudshake Chocolate Vodka Cruisers, A double-distilled Vodka and chocolate blend. He spits it out, enraged by modern consumerism and gluttony and grabs his guitar, and the rest is history…

The Indigos are showing Australia their extraordinary range as songwriters with their second single ‘She’. Revolving heavily around fiercely intense vocals and fiery guitar riffs, ‘She’ was written for anyone that’s had their head turned inside-out by a relationship and just wants to get up and scream it out.

SNAPSHOT ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES
Pete Murray
One of a few Australian artists with over 1 million album sales under his belt, Pete Murray is one of Australia’s most loved singer-songwriters thanks to albums including Feeler (6x platinum), See The Sun, Summer at Eureka, Blue Sky Blue and Camacho. He has just released the single ‘If We Never Dance Again,’ co-written with Nashville’s Morgan Dorr, ahead of his March 5 release of the EP, THE NIGHT. Recorded in his hometown of Byron Bay, THE NIGHT EP, is inspired by his family and the life experiences that have gotten him to where he is today. It’s a poignant, introspective EP that highlights Pete’s iconic vocals with a rich acoustic sound and propels Pete further into the iconic easy listening sphere that he’s well-loved for.

Mark Seymour & The Undertow
Mark Seymour formed Hunters and Collectors in 1980. The band became famous for its rhythmic power and very quickly became touted as the “next big thing”.  The Album “Human Frailty“ was  recorded in Melbourne in 1985.   This record has proven to be one of the most important and enduring records of the eighties. With “Human Frailty“ Mark discovered, love, loss, and pop melody.  His solo records are directly connected to this era and bear the same stamp of raw honesty and emotional power.

After eighteen years of touring with one of Australia’s most successful and deeply loved rock bands, Mark felt that he had done all that he could as the front man of Hunters and Collectors. he found himself alone on stage with just an acoustic guitar.

As a solo artist, Mark continues to search for the emotional truth in a song.  Mark Seymour’s strength as a performer remains undiminished despite the ever-present shadow of the band he used to be in.
As well as 13 Hunters & Collectors albums, Mark has released seven solo albums and four with his current band, The Undertow.  Throughout it all, he has shown he is one of our finest songwriters, capturing our stories of love, loss, human courage and achievement.

Kate Ceberano
Fronting pop funk band I’M TALKING, Kate notched up 5 consecutive hit singles and a Platinum debut album ‘Bear Witness’ (The 100 Best Australian Albums). The year was 1986 and Kate Ceberano won Most Popular Female Artist at the Countdown Awards.

Kate Ceberano is a most diverse and creative tour-de-force, possessing one of the great voices of her generation.
Kate’s latest album SWEET INSPIRATION (ARIA Top 5), places Kate in the pantheon of acts who have achieved Top 10 ARIA albums over 5 decades; 80’s / 90’s / 00’s / 10’s and now 2010’s; joining AC/DC, Kylie Minogue, Midnight Oil and Queen.

Fiona Boyes & The Fortune Tellers
Fiona Boyes is an internationally recognised blues guitarist, vocalist, bandleader and songwriter.  A distinctive fingerpicking and slide guitarist. Fiona’s soulful, authoritative style has earned her 8 nominations in the USA Blues Music Awards, Memphis.  She is the only Australian musician ever to be nominated in these prestigious awards, which are considered to be the Grammys of the Blues.  Her mostly original repertoire showcases a myriad of traditional regional blues, folk and roots influences, and spans a dozen album releases.  Fiona’s recent award-winning albums feature acoustic finger-picking, swampy electric guitar, unique hand-made cigarbox instruments and a rare National Reso-Lectric baritone with grooves that range from Delta slide guitar, gritty Mississippi Hills riffs, intricate acoustic country blues, classic Chicago and New Orleans feels to heartfelt ballads.  International reviewers have likened her albums to taking a ‘virtual roots music road trip through the American Deep South’.

Lambros.
Hailing from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, brothers Connor & Harry Lambrou have been entertaining audiences with their unique brand of music, and infectious passion at venues all across Australia.
Their recent successes have been underpinned by performances alongside multi-platinum artists Tones and I, Thirsty Merc, Mental as Anything, and appearances at numerous festivals across the nation, and their single “Do Something” reached #1 on the national AMRAP charts.

With music encompassing blues, rock, soul, funk, folk and singer-songwriter; Connor and Harry seamlessly blend genres through their unique use of sounds such as the didgeridoo, distorted acoustic guitar, raw vocals, and a thumping homemade hybrid drum-kit.
Hand-picked by Peter Noble to feature at this year’s event, these musical brothers promise to deliver a highly memorable experience.

The Regime
Exploding out of Sydney’s inner-west, The Regime is a 12-piece funk collective, that’s tipping the scales firmly back into the favour of fun. Dripping with raw sexual energy that’s one part James Brown and two parts Jamiroquai lavishly spiced with George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, this live funk party machine is an orgiastic carnival of the senses that has-to-be-seen-to-be-believed!
A lively, music experiment that generously borrows from funk, soul, electro and twists it into a sumptuous undulation, and fun-loving elation their debut EP ‘If it is, it is! Isn’t it?’ is seducing audiences all over the country with its infectious grooves.
The Regime are adept at serving up a triple helping of thumping bass lines, hearty brass tones and fat lyrics to voracious crowds.
The Regime has firmly consolidated a reputation as one of the most exciting new artists climbing their way to the top of the live music scene.

 Round Mountain Girls
If Mumford and Sons, The Pogues and Metallica had a three-way lovechild it would be a Round Mountain Girl. Coined in the press as the ‘finest purveyors of ‘Celtabillypunkfolkrootsgrass’ in the southern hemisphere’, they are capable of taking you to places you didn’t know existed. Fast and furious, tender and humorous, great playing, great songs. You’ll forget you’ve got a mortgage, forget your dog’s just died and ignore, for a moment that the ice caps are melting.
For a band that got together with absolutely zero expectations other than a weekly jam, they have punched way above their collective weight, but when you see them play live, and witness the raw energy and joy they bring to an audience, it’s all too easy to understand why.

Electrik Lemonade
They are the 2019 Byron Bay Bluesfest Busking Competition winners.
Electrik Lemonade is a merry band of funklordsthat play a repertoire of funk, hip hop, blues, soul and dance music that could only be fathered by the likes of Captain Planet. Each member brings their own slice of Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and Lovin’ in the live show, culminating in a whirlwind of explosive energy that comes with a tidal warning!
Since their debut in December 2010, ElectrikLemonade’s live performances have rapidly grown.  After releasing their debut album ‘Squeezed Fresh’, Electrik Lemonade have continued their incredible run of good times around Australia, performing at Byron Bay Bluesfest, and sharing stages alongside John Butler Trio, Sticky Fingers, John Paul Young, Mental As Anything & Ian Moss.

Palm Valley
Palm Valley is the indie-rock duo of Ryan Smart & Arden Booker, aged 18 and 16 respectively. In 2019 they won the Grommet Division of the Bluesfest Busking Competition – and it’s easy to see why. Their combination of heavy riffs, relatable lyrics and infectious energy informs unique songwriting style to give them a raw and energetic sound.
