ACE FREHLEY ANNOUNCES ORIGINS VOL. 2 DETAILS, EXTENDS ALBUM DEAL WITH ENTERTAINMENT ONE

Founding KISS guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame member Ace Frehley announces the release of Origins Vol. 2, his highly-anticipated second collection of eleven rock ‘n’ roll covers, due out on September 18, 2020. Today, he also releases the first single, a flawless cover of Deep Purple’s 1972 hit, “Space Truckin'” available now on all streaming platforms, and as an official music video.

Recorded at The Creation Lab in Turlock, CA, Frehley recorded guitar, bass, and vocals on “Space Truckin'” with long-time studio drummer Matt Star and keyboard player Rob Sabino (Peter Frampton,  Simon & Garfunkel).

Ace offers, ‘’Space Truckin’ was recorded years ago, and then I just re-recorded some parts and changed it a little. We never ended up putting it on a record, so it was just sitting around. It turned out very well. Rob Sabino is a very accomplished studio musician, and we actually grew up in the Bronx together, so we go way back.”

The official video for ‘Space Truckin” was directed by eOne’s Ken Gullic (VP, Sales & Acquisitions, Music) and animated by Chris Fequiere, the same team behind the “Mission to Mars” music video from Frehley’s Spaceman album in 2018.

Frehley has also re-signed with eOne for more new releases, which extends his original deal signed in 2013. During his tenure, he has released three albums worth of new material, Origins Vol. 2 is the fourth. A new studio album is planned for 2021 with two additional releases to follow.

With nine albums into his vibrant solo career, one that clearly stands on its own, it’s time for Ace to be considered as a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted solo performer too.”

Frehley continues his reflections on a lifetime in music with this release of Origins Vol. 2. No stranger to cover versions throughout his musical history — having recorded, rebranded and repossessed such notable nuggets as ‘New York Groove,’ ‘Do Ya’ and ‘I Wanna Go Back’ throughout his eight previous studio efforts — this new collection presents a thoughtful and exciting selection of songs that inspired and helped shape the legendary guitarist. That spirit of fun is carried through with exquisite execution, and guitar aficionados will enjoy Frehley’s fresh interpretations of these classic songs.

Origins Vol 2. features some extraordinary guests, including Robin Zanderof Cheap Trick on Humble Pie’s ‘30 Days In The Hole,’ and former KISS comrade Bruce Kulick on Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Manic Depression.’ Origins Vol.1alumnus John5 also returns, playing on Cream’s ‘Politician,’ and The Beatles’ ‘I’m Down.’ Finally, the exquisite Lita Ford returns on vocals, this time on The Rolling Stones’ 1968 hit ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash.’ Full tracklisting below.

Perth, Western Australia’s favourite industrial sons, SPARROW, are returning today with the news of their new single, the first taste of an upcoming album! This new single release ‘Machina’ is available for pre-order now on all good digital outlets at https://ffm.to/sparrow_machina.

Sparrow worked alongside talented/celebrated mixer/producer, FORRESTER SAVELL (Karnivool, COG, Dead Letter Circus) to bring this track to life – and this is only the beginning of a mountain of new music coming from Sparrow over the coming months. The new single will be released via The Orchard/Sony and Sub Rosa.

The new single ‘Machina’ develops and expands upon the heavy, industrial, digital sound of their previous release and doubles down on that. Vocalist Sean Hendry, said of the new single, “We can’t wait for this to be out there in the world, it’s been a little while in between drinks and this new music is the stuff we are most proud of to date!”

Formed in late 2010 by Songwriter Sean Hendry and Drummer Clint Gatter, Sparrow began as I SAID THE SPARROW, a side-project for a film that quickly grew into a serious entity. The popularity of earliy releases allowed them the opportunity to support a list of national touring acts including Dead Letter Circus, Twelve Foot Ninja and Tonight Alive, tour Australia and make appearances at the Rock the Bay Festival in Melbourne and the popular Hyperfest in Perth.

SPARROW returned in 2018 with two new members in bassist Anthony Jackson (Birds of Tokyo, End of Fashion) and Robert Buratti taking over synthesisers and guitar duties. Sparrow released EP release ‘Digital People’, unveiling a heavier approach, showcasing the developed industrial edge which has become a SPARROW trademark.

Acclaimed metal website Metal Sucks said that single ‘Digital People used “…Reznoresque, barebones electronic backbeat to kickstart four minutes of guitar-propelled fury, digital-as-fuck synthesizer sound effects and a double-bass laden chorus that simultaneously implants an earworm deep inside your cranium and doesn’t relent on the pace.” and that their EP Digital People was “…full of bangers just like this one; it’s as compelling a release in 2018 as any, that’s for certain.”

New Fearless Records signing Not A Toy have shared the video for the dreamy and sonically intoxicating jam “Antidote”, watch + listen here.

“‘Antidote’ is about loving someone that is bad for you, or knowing that you are bad for someone,” the band shares.

Not A Toy, who traffic in smooth and swaggy rock, previously shared the video for “J Cash” and the slow banger “Quit Quitting.”

All three tracks will appear on the band’s self-titled debut EP, which arrives August 7 via Fearless Records. It’s available here.

“This EP is a creative summary of the human experience,” Not A Toy says. “It explores the emotional journey we’ve been through over the last few years of writing it. The collective theme of the songs is self questioning; looking inward on how far we’ve come in our self growth.”

Not A Toy can’t be classified as simply a band. Rather, they are a collective of four creatives — Branson Hoog (lead vocals), Jeremy Marmor (guitar), Benji Spoliansky (drums), and TJ Wessel (violin, keys). “Not A Toy is not just a band; it’s a lifestyle of art and creation,” says Hoog. “We’re not the first to combine different genres of music, but we’re also blending other artforms — from streetwear to art shows. We’re a snapshot of this generation’s tattooed youth and bedroom beatmakers. We’re just creating, and there are no rules to creation.”

The members of this collective met in high school and cut their teeth in various projects together before launching Not A Toy in 2020. Operating out of a shared house in Denver, the group’s synergy results from the sum of its parts. Classically trained and on the violin from a young age, Wessel plays a slew of other instruments, adding a variety of textures and production to the sound. Marmor not only rips on guitar, but he also “makes trap beats so quickly it’s ridiculous,” while Spoliansky holds down the groove as the drummer and acts as an “overarching producer.” Meanwhile, Hoog writes the majority of the lyrics and plays guitar and piano. Based on a background in graphic design and painting, he “brings the art to the project.”

Make Way for Man announce ‘Rites’ EP out September 18, drop new single

Perth, Western Australia’s Make Way For Man established themselves in 2016 – with the vision of
creating heavy music with a positive message. Today, they are announcing the release of their brand new EP ‘Rites’ – a 6 track collection of their experiences in the past few years, including singles ‘Ideations’ (featuring guest vocals from Sean Harmanis of Make Them Suffer) and MVP, as well as their Owl City cover ‘Fireflies’.

The new EP was recorded in Perth, Western Australia and was mixed and mastered by Joe Johnson at Tone Traktor Audio.The EP contains 6 tracks – all lyrically themed around overcoming the fear of every day life.

Guitarist Drew Shepherd says that the EP “…explores the idea of not overcoming fear by succeeding always, but knowing there are bound to be ups and downs in life – and having to be ready to handle them the best way you personally know how to.”

The 5 members of MWFM carry quite diverse musical influences, which helps them to create something unique. They fit no single genre, incorporating odd time signatures, pop hooks, guttural breakdowns, poly-rhythmic passages and technical guitar solos into their sound.

Since the band’s inception they have released 2 singles, ‘limitless’ and ‘Ideations’ both with well over 100k views. The ep entitled ‘Evolve and Repair’ and a new ep ‘Rites’ set for release this year. They also released a cover version of ‘Fireflies’ by Owl City.

Today Fontaines D.C. release their highly anticipated second album, A Hero’s Death – out everywhere now via Partisan Records / Liberator Music. Arriving battered and bruised – albeit beautiful – the album is anything but a re-hash of the swaggering energy from their first record Dogrel. Instead, the music is patient, confident, and complex – a heady and philosophical take on the modern world and its great uncertainty.

A Hero’s Death includes the recently-shared album highlights: the live favourite, ‘Televised Mind’, the lonely intensity of ‘I Don’t Belong’ and the hypnotic title track, which features a music video starring Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, The Wire, Peaky Blinders).

To record A Hero’s Death, Fontaines D.C. rejoined producer Dan Carey (Black Midi, Bat For Lashes) in his London studio. Together they carved out a more restrained, spectral balladry that runs through a good portion of A Hero’s Death, citing influences from Suicide, The Beach Boys, and Leonard Cohen to others including Beach House, Broadcast, and Lee Hazlewood. With album art featuring a statue of the mythological Irish warrior Cúchulainn that stands in Dublin as a commemoration of the Easter Rising, there are layers to the phrase “A hero’s death.” The album serves as a conscious effort to subvert expectations, to challenge themselves and their listeners, and to sacrifice one identity in order to take on another – one that is fully their own.

The band’s debut album Dogrel debuted Top 10 on the UK album charts, earning Fontaines D.C. a Mercury Prize nomination, #1 Album of the Year positions from BBC 6 Music and Rough Trade, a performance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and numerous sold out tours in the UK and abroad – including triumphantly selling out London Brixton Academy in just 1 week. The Guardian (who gave the album 5 stars) praised Dogrel as being “brilliant, top to bottom,” The FADER called Fontaines D.C. “One of the most exciting new bands around,” and NME (who also gave Dogrel 5 stars) called them “One of guitar music’s most essential new voices.”
