Perth’s pop-punk four piece, Nautical Mile, are today premiering their brand new single, “Marionette”, through Wall Of Sound and will launch the single around the country on tour in late August. The tour will begin in Perth on August 23 and will make its way through Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne! Tickets on sale now at Oztix!

“Marionette” is about a dysfunctional family unit and the experiences of some of the band members growing up in such an environment. The song is about standing up to the aggressor in these relationships which can be very difficult to escape. Vocalist Brodi Owen explains that “the particular relationship described features the aggressor attempting to mold their child into their vision of the person they want them to be with the child acting to rebel against this push. This is the inspiration for the puppetry/the marionette; the aggressor in the relationship is pulling the strings to try and force the actions of the other”.

The brand new single “Marionette” almost picks up where the last left off with Owen adding “our previous track Regicide was about a failing relationship, Marionette continues in a similar vein, however discusses a relationship within a family unit rather than between two unrelated entities.”

In support of this brand new single, Nautical Mile will be touring Australia following the release of “Marionette” and will take a total of 12 local bands in support across the tour. The tour will kick off at Amplifier Bar in Perth and will be supported by Carrington, Dead Sea and Ferncroft. Brisbane will be up next at The Brightside and will take support from Sleepwell, Kid Fly, Grizzlyshark and All Hours, Sydney’s show will take place at Burdekin Hotel and will be supported by Speakeasy and Capitol Affair and Melbourne’s gig at The Workers Club will take support from Spectral Fires, Red Morning Light and Loose End.

Nautical Mile formed in late 2015, releasing their first self-titled EP at the beginning of 2016. Following this, the second EP, ‘Playing For Keeps’, was brought to life in 2017 and reinforced the bands foot in the pop-punk scene, earning the band a couple of spins on Triple J’s Short.Fast.Loud. Between releases, the boys energetic live show has led to Nautical Mile sharing the stage with the likes of Trophy Eyes, Hellions, Hawthorne Heights and The Decline to name just a few.

Australian future bass King, Moonbase, is back with an electrifying new single and news of a brand-new EP.

The new cut ‘Dummy’ is vintage Moonbase – his patented dark, booming aesthetic, a mix of industrial beats, ear-bleeding drones, and a peer into the sonic dimension he reigns over supreme. The single is the first cut from a new EP – COMMANDER I – which is out August 9 via Dew Process, TRENCH, and Universal Music Australia.

As its title suggests, this new EP is one in a back to back series of COMMANDER EPs, with COMMANDER II set to drop later this year. They both follow on from the acclaimed release of the Avalanche EP in May, the record that marked Moonbase’s return to the music scene after battling brain cancer throughout 2018.
“I originally launched my career by making dope instrumental tracks and I wanted to hone in on that vibe,” says Moonbase. “Amongst all the talented rappers and singers I’ve worked with in the past, experimenting with my sound has always remained central to me. In order to usher in a new era of Moonbase music, I felt returning to my roots is what I needed to do most.”
Having already worked with the likes of Anderson Paak, Cakes Da Killa, Miss Blanks, DVNA and Merky Ace, as well as having received accolades from international outlets like Pitchfork and Skrillex’s taste-making blog Nest HQ, Moonbase is ready to continue his rise to prominence off the back of the Avalanche EP.

Megan Sidwell has today released her new album Right Kind of Wrong, a collection of songs written since Sidwell’s move from New Zealand to Australia. ‘Over the course of these years I’ve met people who wanted me to change my sound and my look so I was an easier product to sell,’ says Sidwell, ‘and the name “Right Kind of Wrong” is about my own battles and acceptance towards my music. These songs feel right to me because they are my truth.’

Recorded in Nashville and produced by Sam Hawksley, who has worked with The Sunny Cowgirls and Adam Brand, Right Kind of Wrong features seven tracks showcasing Sidwell’s song-writing talents and uncanny ability to hit the heartstrings when it matters most. From slower ballads like ‘December’ to the retrospective ‘Seventeen’ and lead single ‘I Got You’, Sidwell paints a picture of the trials, tribulations and testing times that come with finding out who you are and who you want to be.

Having taken out first place in the 2016 Battle of the Bands at Tamworth Country Music Festival, not to mention support slots with Big Country, Tyler Hilton, Kate Voegele and Brad Cox, Sidwell is no stranger to wowing listeners on stage. The time has come, Wither have today unveiled pure demonic hell with their massive new single, ‘Use Me’. The band have unleashed a whole new level of panic into the world with the brand new standalone follow-up to their acclaimed debut EP ‘Rot and I’. 

To all who thought Wither’s debut output was heavy, prepare to be buried under the weight of this all-out assault, aimed directly at social climbers.

The track has been connecting heavily with triple j presenters and listeners all week, premiering on Monday night on Home & Hosed, then getting subsequent spins on The Racket and Short. Fast. Loud. all in the same week, and then added to rotation on The Faction radio on Thursday ahead of its release today.

Vocalist David De La Hoz says of the single “The longer your life is, the more people come and go from it. Some relationships we build are positively impactful, some are not. But then there are also relationships that, as they develop, feel as if they’re positively impactful but the relationship is merely a façade used to conceal an agenda. I learn more and more with each day that a lot of the people I have and will welcome into my life are users. Snakes. They will slide in under the guise of friendship, and they will drain me. Once they get what they want, they detach, and I become barely even worth a memory. Not everyone is your friend. Not everyone actually likes you like you hope they do.”

‘Use Me’ comes accompanied by an equally hellish video created and directed by Colin Jeffs (Alpha Wolf, Windwaker, Dealer) and flaunts elements of glitch and static to portray a visually dark undertone. The clip features an actual snake that David harnesses around his neck whilst spitting his rage filled lyrics through a black substance that drips from his mouth to highlight the potency of his words. Armed with a high energy live show, songs from a forgotten century, and a terrible band name, The Barren Spinsters are the kind of band that Jack White would maybe join if he lowered his standards.

 They look like a two-piece, sound like a five piece, and move like a hair piece. Front man Brendon Houlahan plays guitar with his hands, bass with his feet, and sings with his face. Matt Tennant belts the drums really hard, sings a little bit, and wears really dumb shirts while doing it. Together, The Barren Spinsters deliver 70s blues rock with a modern thrashy twist. Perto with Kah-Lo ‘Bad Maybe Good’ New Single Drops

17-year old Australian producer Perto has teamed up with GRAMMY-nominated, Nigerian born / NYC based vocalist Kah-Lo (of Rinse & Repeat / Fake ID notoriety) to deliver infectious new single Bad Maybe Good.

 

Bad Maybe Good (which was recorded while Kah-Lo was on tour in Australia earlier this year) blends Kah-Lo’s distinctive soulful tones and effortless energy with the young prodigy’s infectious, hip-hop-infused electronic sound. Of the collaboration Perto says, “We made this song when Kah-Lo was on tour in Sydney with Riton a few months ago, my team said she was down to do a session, and I was like, “What!” We ended up getting into the studio and it all happened in two hours. That song came out so quickly. It was a crazy dynamic that day.”

 

“He’s so talented and made the beat in 5 minutes, and that’s hardly an exaggeration.” Says Kah-Loof the collaboration. “I wrote ‘Bad Maybe Good’ about when you know a person isn’t exactly right for you, but you go along anyway. I’d say it’s kind of the foundation of most casual relationships, and I wasn’t hearing a lot of songs that acknowledged that. Love that we’re able to put this song out!”

 

Finding inspiration at the age of 10 after hearing Skrillex’s ‘Bangarang’ on the radio for the first time (“I was like, ‘what the fuck is this?!”), he spent the next few years teaching himself music production; fast-forward to just a few years later and prodigious Perto now shares the same team rosters as his former idol.

 

For any young producer, collaborating and crossing paths with revered artists like Timbaland and Billie Eilish is the stuff of dreams, but for the17-year-old it is very much a reality. In a recent interview with i-D (Perto’s first ever interview!) he revealed exactly what he has been working on while flying under the radar; “Probably most of these won’t come out, but between LA and Miami I worked with Timbaland, Ludacris, Justin Timberlake, Billie Eilish and Whethan… So much stuff! And Diablo — he basically kicked off Smokepurpp and Lil Pump’s careers. He was producing them from day one. He’s the craziest dude ever. We linked in LA and I was cancelling sessions with everyone else ’cause I just wanted to hang out at his house and work on stuff. We’ve been working together a lot recently.”

 

The combination of Perto’s production prowess which shows a maturity well beyond his years along with a unique and a kinetic live presence has already landed him with endorsements from Zane Lowe and Apple’s Beats 1 as well as in some of the world’s biggest clubs. He headlined his first extensive club tour of Australasia at age 16 as well as supported Alison Wonderland for herAustralian 2018 Awake tour. Perto has also been announced to perform alongside the likes of Diplo, Denzel Curry, 6LACK and Whethan at Listen Out festival 2019 in September with more headline dates yet to be announced.
