Bloc Party
John Cain Arena
3/8/2025
It was a surprisingly warm winters night in Melbourne and you could feel the anticipation that was buzzing from the crowd as people lined up waiting to go into John Cain Arena
Once inside ,everyone was eager to get to their seats or if you were fortunate enough to be standing, making their way to the front of the stage in hope of catching a glimpse of Bloc Party. Before that could happen, Young the Giant took the stage and warmed the crowd up.
Arena falling into total darkness, crowd cheering, Bloc Party takes the stage, opening with “So here we are”, “She’s hearing Voices” and “Mercury”.
Frontman Kele Okereke exclaimed at his joy performing in Melbourne – saying he wasn’t sure when they (the band) will be back, but they will be back again.
Playing through Silent Alarm and all their greatest hits, the crowd went wild, gazing out upon the sea of people, I noticed something that I haven’t seen for a long time, the crowd were there for the music and to be in the moment, when “Song for Clay(Disappear Here)” rang out – no one in the pit was on their phone, the white glow on peoples faces wasn’t to be seen, just pure joy and excitement was up in the air, a rare site in todays extreme hustle society where everyone lives on their phones. Maybe it’s the slightly older crowd who turned up or maybe, just maybe, Bloc Party pulled the crowd into the moment blasting everyone with their sound, a night to be remembered.
Blazing through their set list they played other hits like “Banquet”, “Traps”, The Prayer” and “Like Eating Glass” – ending their set with a 5 song Encore saving their best for last, sending of the night with “Signs”,” The Pioneers”, “Helicopter”, This Modern Love” and rocking the house down with “Ratchet”. Couldn’t have had a better send off for a night out.

News: MONDO FREAKS ANNOUNCE ALBUM LAUNCH AND RELEASE NEW SINGLE “TURN THIS LOVE AROUND”
MONDO FREAKS ANNOUNCE ALBUM LAUNCH
AND RELEASE NEW SINGLE “TURN THIS LOVE AROUND”

Mondo Freaks pick up the pace, both in terms of tempo and in the rate of releasing new Funk with the sparkling “Turn This Love Around”. Coming hot on the heels of “Won’t You Decide” and their Bells Are Ringing EP, more and more listeners are starting to realise that this Melbourne 10 piece might be one of the best new Funk acts anywhere, let alone from the hotbed of Soul that is their hometown of Melbourne.
The band are also excited to announce the hometown album launch at Howler, Brunswick on Friday December 12th. Special guests are masters of vintage Afro Disco and Psychedelic Boogie, Wrong Way Up and helping turn the night well and truly into a party, Northside DJs will be playing through the night.
Jade MacRae once again truly shines on lead vocals on the track, which is yet another reason to get excited by their debut self-titled album, scheduled for October 17th on the band’s own Every Star Records. While Mondos are based in Melbourne, Jade spends most of her time in the US due to her high demand as a backing and session vocalist. And that made writing the song a truly international affair.
“Along with Bells Are Ringing, Turn This Love Around pretty much came together in one night if you count the international date line,” recalls bassist and co-founder Luke Hodgson. “A full instrumental arrangement recorded in Melbourne by Graeme and I then sent to Jade over in Oregon to demo her ideas in real time. A true synergy in concept and musical ideas for this one too. Some songs simply write themselves. A cosmic gift!”
The release will be accompanied by another instalment of their Live at The Quadraphonic Club series of videos that have gradually been finding and keeping new fans who are astounded by the playing and performance by this stellar group of musicians. This particular clip is double the value as it seamlessly segues into the band’s first single from this year, the 12/8 wonder that is “Bells Are Ringing”.
Apart from MacRae, bassist Luke Hodgson and drummer Graeme Pogson (GL, The Bamboos) the other players in Mondos really shine in these videos: Susie Goble, Francisco Tavares on vocals, Aaron Mendoza on keys and vocals, James Bowers on synth, Javier Fredes on percussion and Danny Dharumasena along with Gillan Gregory on guitar. The band have their sound down so tight that they were requested to back Boogie and Disco legends Leroy Burgess (Black Ivory, Logg, Aleem, Inner Life, and Universal Robot Band) and the iconic Evelyn “Champagne” King on their Australian tours
As with all previous singles, the track was mixed by Grammy winner Michael Brauer, who made his name mixing countless Rn’B classics from the likes of Change, BB&Q Band, Was (Not Was), Gwen Guthrie, Grace Jones, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Pleasure, Cheryl Lynn, Cerrone, Jones Girls, Kid Creole, Teddy Pendegrass, Morris Day and many more.

News: COPPERLINE RETURN WITH REFLECTIVE NEW SINGLE ‘SLEEPWALKING’
Copperline return with their first new music since the award-winning 2022 single ‘Lucinda’, which drew a wave of new fans to the country rock outfit. Now, the 4-piece offer a first glimpse of their forthcoming third studio album with the release of ‘Sleepwalking’.
The gritty mid-tempo track is built on big guitars, sharp hooks and introspective storytelling – a sound the band has built from the ground up with long-time producer Shane Nicholson (Alex Lloyd, Tori Forsyth, Amber Lawrence). Working with the band since 2018, the multiple ARIA and Golden Guitar winner has an innate ability interpret their sound.
“We’ve formed a great creative partnership with Shane, working together across three records. We love the way he takes the time to understand and capture the things that make us unique as a band. And the way he finds the human touches in the performance of a song that make it unique and real.”
Lyrically, the song wrestles with the push-and-pull of drifting through life, half-awake, until the realisation hits that something has to change. “I wrote this song as a kind of wake-up call to myself,” shares frontman Brad Christmas. “I felt like I was going through life on autopilot, sleepwalking through my days in a cloud of my own thoughts. The song was a reminder to get out of my own head once in a while and smell the roses.”
The single follows the success of ‘Lucinda’ – a haunting ballad from their 2022 sophomore album Borrowed, Broken and Blue. Written for Christmas’ late daughter, the track climbed to #6 Most Downloaded and #3 Most Streamed single on the Play MPE charts, won Ballad of the Yearat the 2023 Australian Songwriters Association Awards, and has since notched over 182,000streams on Spotify.
Since their 2018 debut Rusty Fords and Weatherboards, Copperline have steadily built a reputation as one of Australia’s most distinctive country rock bands, earning radio play nationwide, stepping onto festival stages including Toyota Park at Tamworth Country Music Festival, and sharing lineups with the likes of Andrew Swiftand Bill Chambers.
With 5 x Australian Songwriters Associationnominations – including the 2023 win for ‘Lucinda’ – and 3 x Tamworth Songwriters Association nods, Copperline have firmly established themselves as one of the country’s most respected songwriting outfits.
Frontman Brad Christmas has also played sideman to a slew of music royalty, performing with Boney M, Steve Kilbey (The Church), Mark Williams (Dragon), and Steve Balbi(Noiseworks). He and drummer Gareth Richardsare also part of indie-rock collective The Gin Palace, who have performed alongside the Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets and TISM.
With ‘Sleepwalking’, Copperline lean into the grit, urgency and humanity that defines their sound, proving that they’re ones to watch. If you haven’t heard Copperline yet, it’s time to wake up and listen.

“We truly have the best fans in the world and when we sat down to plot this tour we wanted to give them everything they have always asked us for and dreamed of. That’s the reason we are so excited to be going on the road all over the world to play every song from every episode of the TV show. Big Time Rush became an overnight sensation in 2009 from the launch of the Nickelodeon television series Big Time Rush. The show was a huge success and catapulted the group into real-life stardom, as they went on to release 3 studio albums and performed across the globe, including five tours from 2011 to 2014. In June 2020, the band held a surprise virtual reunion to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their smash hit “Worldwide,” resulting in mass hysteria amongst their fans and in the media. In March 2021, all four seasons of Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush were added to Netflix and the band went viral once again, increasing fan demand for an official reunion. Soon after, the band announced they would come together for two special live shows in New York and Chicago, both of which sold-out in a matter of minutes, blowing expectations out of the water and proving the power of the band’s devoted fandom.
Since reuniting, Big Time Rush has completed three back-to-back sold-out tours, selling out venues across the globe, including New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden. Their first new album in over 10 years, Another Life, was released in 2023 to praise from critics and fans alike.

ABOUT BIG TIME RUSH:
Big Time Rush became an overnight sensation in November 2009 when the scripted TV show of the same name launched on Nickelodeon. The show focused on the Hollywood adventures of four hockey players from Minnesota after they were selected to form a boy band. The show became a huge success and later, Carlos, Kendall, James, and Logan came to life as a band off the screen releasing three full length albums and performing across the globe. As the show concluded in July 2013 and after four years of recording music and touring as a band, they went their separate ways but remained close friends through the years.
After 7 years, in an effort to bring joy to their fans during quarantine around the world, the members of Big Time Rush decided to appear together as a group to send a message of love and togetherness. This was soon followed by a socially distant performance of an acoustic version of their smash hit, “Worldwide”. These appearances resulted in hysteria amongst their fans and in the media, followed by BTR receiving 10+ million streams in 2020 alone. Four seasons of the TV show were added to Netflix in March 2021 and have appeared in the Netflix “Top 10” trending titles.
The band finished off 2021 with a performance at iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in Philadelphia as well as 2 sold out shows in Chicago and NYC, capping it off with the release of their first single in 8 years, “Call It Like I See It”.
The power group kicked off 2022 stronger than ever with the launch of their wildly successful, sold-out Forever Tour, as well as all new music, including hit singles “Honey,” “Fall,” and “Not Giving You Up.” The Forever Tour included numerous sell outs including shows in Chicago, at New York City’s legendary Madison Square Garden and on all dates on their Mexico Tour. The tour concluded in early 2023 in South America with shows in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Chile.
Another Life, which was released in June of 2023, was the band’s first new studio album release in ten years and was followed up by a special deluxe version in November. The band’s 2023 Can’t Get Enough Tour sold out amphitheater and arena shows – selling out venues across the US including Los Angeles’s KIA Forum and New York’s Jones Beach on the 39-city run. Across 2022 and 2023 the band’s reunion resulted in over 600,000 tickets sold.
2024 was another incredible year for Big Time Rush, including several sold-out international tours in the UK, Europe, Asia & Australia. The band ended the year with their sold-out holiday extravaganza – Big Time Rush On Ice – bringing their fans together for a first of its kind skating and concert spectacle on ice.
