My Dream Rider: Brett Wood

Brett Wood is carving out his own distinct space as one of Australia’s premier blues artists. A soulful singer, fierce guitarist and gifted songwriter, his work radiates authenticity and no matter what style or genre he leans towards, there is always a deep connection to his blues roots.

10 items on Brett Wood’s dream rider:

  1. Krispy Kreme original glaze donuts with 0 calories – let me know when you invent them please!  That’s a cryptonite I have to avoid on a daily!

  1. Self-ironing shirts that are impervious to food spills and toothpaste splatter – I’m hopeless – as soon as I’m dressed I’ll find a way to ruin it and I am guilty of not ironing occasionally – so self-ironing shirts would be great!

  1. A physio/osteo for stretching and getting out the knots after loading in the gear and soundchecking – that would definitely be a cool luxury.

  1. A few beers – wait, that’s fairly normal – ok maybe rather than a regular rider fridge – what about a small corner bar with a bartender for cocktails. It would be nice to have the option for a martini/margarita occasionally. Not every show – but every now and then. Thanks – let me know when they’re set up.

  1. Some gym equipment for a light pre-show session, just to get blood flow and mind and body connected could be a cool option. Often on the road it’s tough finding time to get to train, so that’d be an awesome add on.

  1. Hardwood floor basketball half court – what the hell – make it a full court…just to mix up the exercise and I am an old basketball head from the age of 7 – that’s my sport. It’s a great way for my mind to re-center.

  1. Incense and some nice lighting options instead of some of the fluro office type spaces – vibe is everything before a show

  1. A nice amp and pedal setup for warmups and a space for small kit and bass rig as well for the band to have a low key jam to connect casually and jam before shows on. Because it’s fun!

  1. Comfy, cozy couches! Quality naps are a survival must on the road!

  1. Last but not least, my loved ones, if the rider could include a retainer to cover all their wages and expenses – and I could have them with me instead of being apart – that’d be awesome.

The plug:

I have just released my second single ‘Eyes’, you can listen to that HERE. I am also currently on tour with Pete Murray as his opening act and his guitarist – you can get tickets HERE.

Artist Managers Aidan McLaren, Joe Miles & Rhett McLaren of The Hills Are Alive Group Launch ‘Weird Fishes’

After more than a decade of managing artists in a strategic partnership with UNIFIED Music Group, Aidan McLaren, Joe Miles and Rhett McLaren have launched a new independent artist management company, Weird Fishes.

The Weird Fishes management team kicks off with an impressive roster, including Australian staples; Boy & Bear, The Dreggs, Pete Murray, Steph Strings and Tim Hart, all of whom are currently experiencing significant periods of growth in their careers.

Boy & Bear are one of Australia’s premiere alt/indie acts. With multiple number 1 albums, 5 consecutive top 10 albums, the band are selling more headline tickets in their career than ever before.

The Dreggs are one of the fastest rising acts in the country. Snagging the coveted triple j feature album this week, the most played Like a Version of any Australian act this year,  playing the upcoming Spilt Milk and Strumming Bird touring festivals, as well as embarking on their own debut North American headline  tour along with returning to the UK/EU for headline shows in September and October.

Pete Murray is a national icon. He’s sold over 1.2 million albums and is currently in the middle of a 57-date Australian tour that has already sold 35,000 tickets.

Steph Strings has amassed over 1 million social followers and is selling out headline shows and playing festivals all over the world. Stay tuned for her debut album that is coming soon.

Tim Hart is a singer-songwriter-producer (and a founding member of Boy & Bear). His stunning ‘Parasol’ EP was released last week and he continues his reputation as one of the country’s best indie/folk creators.

Mike Waters is a Grammy award winning singer songwriter whose own releases  and co-writes have amassed over half a billion streams.

In a joint statement the Weird Fishes founders expressed excitement for the new venture, “We are incredibly excited to launch Weird Fishes and for this next chapter in our journey. We wholeheartedly believe in the unique talent, audience-connection and growth-potential of each of the acts we represent, both locally and internationally, and are excited for what the future holds.”

In addition to Artist Management, the McLaren brothers and Joe Miles are the driving-force behind The Hills Are Alive Group and much-loved music festivals, NYE on the Hill and Ocean Sounds. Now in their 12th and 7th years running, these festivals have become known for putting world class Australian acts on their stages, including The Teskey Brothers, Ocean Alley, Dope Lemon, Courtney Barnet, Royel Otis, Genesis Owusu, Tkay Maidza, Ball Park Music, Tash Sultana, Vance Joy, Dean Lewis, Tones & I, Angie McMahon, Amy Shark and more.

Through their partnership with Jaddan Comerford, and as co-founders in Red Hill Entertainment, Rhett and Aidan were also instrumental in the creation and running of the iconic UNIFY Gathering Festival as well as Gippsland Country Music Festival.

Showing gratitude for their time with Unified Music Group, the Weird Fishes collective share, “Partnering with UNIFIED over the past decade has been nothing short of inspirational, and allowed us to take this step on our own. The friendships and memories we have created there will last a lifetime and we look forward to further collaborating together as our artists continue to work across many different parts of the group.

And on their future, “we’re hyped for our  new adventures and challenges, and are so thrilled to be stepping out on our own. We cannot wait to see what the future holds – we’re here to continue to work hard and rep our artists with heart, passion and experience”.

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN: Australia Braces For The Arrival Of The Greatest Live Band On The Planet! Ben Weinman talks!

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN: Australia Braces For The Arrival Of The Greatest Live Band On The Planet! Ben Weinman talks!

Following an 8 year hiatus, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN return to Australia in August for a very limited number of live shows to commemorate their groundbreaking album Calculating Infinity and so much more.

When REVOLVER, which is by every metric the world’s top heavy rock magazine, ran a comprehensive survey of music fans and critics, in search of the 5 Greatest Live Band Of All Time, the results were decisive, clear and overwhelming. Beating the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Tool and Pantera to the summit was THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN at Number One! Which was no surprise to anyone who has seen them live.

“1. Dillinger Escape Plan: When it comes to irreverent, no-holds-barred onstage antics, none did it better, or more boldly, than spazzcore innovators Dillinger Escape Plan. Throwing sanity, restraint, common sense and the band members’ own personal safety to the wind, the quintet approached each show as its own unique, arcane ritual, baptizing audiences with blood, sweat and chaos. No one ever left a Dillinger show without a memory — and possibly even a scar — to treasure for life, and a story to shock, astound and horrify disbelieving friends and family with. DEP bid fans farewell at the end of 2017, as possibly the world’s last truly dangerous rock band.”

Guitarist Ben Weinman chats about the Australian Tour and more!

This reunion marks the first time The Dillinger Escape Plan has played live in Australia since 2017’s ‘final ever tour.’ What sparked the decision to return now — and why was Calculating Infinity the catalyst?

‘’Honestly, we weren’t planning to come back. When we said those were our final shows in 2017, we meant it. We were exhausted—in every way. But over the years, Calculating Infinity never really left us. People kept bringing it up. That record became more than just a debut—it was a warning shot, a manifesto. And as the 25th anniversary started creeping up, it hit us: this thing deserves to be honoured on stage, with the people who were there at the start. And who knows how much longer we’ll be physically capable of pulling off a set like that? So we said, “F**k it. Let’s do it the right way, with the right people.”

Revolver Magazine recently named you the “Greatest Live Band of All Time,” ahead of legends like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Tool and Pantera. How does it feel to receive that kind of recognition and do you feel pressure to perform to that standard?
‘’It’s surreal and a little absurd, to be honest. Those bands were gods to us growing up. To even be in the same conversation feels like a prank. But if people think we earned that reputation, it’s because we were never playing at the crowd—we were throwing ourselves into the void every night. There’s no choreography, no safety net. Just chaos, conviction, and a total disregard for self-preservation. Pressure? Sure. But that’s always been there. We thrive on it. If we’re going out there, it’s all or nothing.’’

Fans and critics alike have called Dillinger’s shows legendary — chaotic, unhinged, unforgettable. How do you prepare mentally and physically to deliver that kind of intensity?

‘’It’s not something you rehearse. You can’t plan for what we do—you just prepare your body to survive it. These days, I’ve got to warm up my hands a bit more, get my head straight. Back then, we just showed up and wrecked ourselves. Sort of the same even now, but mentally, it’s always been about reaching that place where you don’t give a shit about anything except the moment. You shut the world out and let instinct take over. The show starts, and it’s a war zone—for us and for the crowd. That’s what people remember. The risk. The sweat. The danger.’’

Revisiting Calculating Infinity in a live setting after all these years — how has your perspective on the album changed since its release, both musically and emotionally?

‘’Back then, we were just trying to burn everything down. We wanted to piss people off, confuse them, challenge what heavy music could be. And looking back, I’m kind of shocked by how far we took it. The songs are insane. Pure chaos. But there’s a logic buried in the madness that I’m appreciating more now. Emotionally, it’s different too. That album came from a place of frustration, of being outsiders. Now, playing it again, it feels like taking control of something raw that once controlled us. It’s still intense, but the intensity hits in a deeper way now.’’

In a scene that’s constantly evolving, what do you think The Dillinger Escape Plan gave to heavy music that hadn’t been done before — and do you think anyone has picked up where you left off?

‘’We didn’t follow a blueprint. We burned the blueprint. Everyone was trying to sound tight, clean, follow trends—and we wanted to sound like a building collapsing on itself. No polish, just violence and precision in the same breath. I think what we brought to the table was a sense that anything could happen at any moment. Not just musically, but physically—on stage, in the crowd, in the air. And sure, some bands have carried the torch in their own way, but Dillinger wasn’t just a sound—it was a mindset. That’s harder to copy than riffs’’

Can you take us back to that first comeback show in Brooklyn with Dimitri what was it like stepping on stage together again after so many years and what does it mean to do this tour with Dimitri back in the lineup?

‘’That show was pure adrenaline and nerves. We hadn’t shared a stage with Dimitri in over 20 years, and none of us knew how it was going to go. But the second we launched into that first track, it felt like time folded in on itself. All the years, all the noise, all the struggle—it came rushing back. Dimitri was the original spark. We built this thing from the ground up together. Doing this tour with him isn’t just nostalgia—it’s reclaiming that original fire and giving it one last, furious send-off.’’

Looking back at Calculating Infinity, what do you think it was about that record that changed the landscape of heavy music — and what does it mean to you personally, 25 years later?
‘’That album didn’t ask for permission. It punched you in the face and then dragged you through a maze. No choruses, no hooks, no safe spots. It was designed to disorient. And I think that’s why it stuck. It made people rethink what was possible. Personally, it was the record that gave me a voice in a scene that didn’t have space for weirdos like us. 25 years later, it’s like looking at an old scar—it hurt like hell at the time, but now it’s a mark you wear with pride. It means survival. It means we mattered.’’

You have had a great run of tours in Australia over the years. What are some of your fondest memories?

‘’Australia’s always been wild. The shows are intense, the people are passionate, and there’s this raw energy in the air every time we’ve played there. I remember jumping off stages into total mayhem, meeting fans who drove 10 hours just to scream every word. We did some of our best damage at festivals like Soundwave, but even the club gigs were out of control. And it’s not just the shows—there’s a vibe in Australia that makes you feel welcome. Like you’re not just passing through. You’re part of something.’’

What can your extremely devoted Australian fans expect from this last ever Australian tour?

‘’They can expect the real thing—no gimmicks, no soft reunion vibes. We’re bringing Calculating Infinity to life the way it was meant to be experienced: full-speed, unrelenting, dangerous. We’re not here to play it safe. We’re here to remind people why this band earned its reputation. If you’ve been waiting to see this version of Dillinger—or if you’ve seen it and want one last taste—you’re not going to leave disappointed. This is the last time we’re bringing this beast down under. Make it count.’’

For those who have before witnessed THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN live, we already know that you will be there. For those who have not, life has given you a second chance. Grasp it with gratitude!

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN’s complexity and intensity continue to influence bands across the spectrum of extreme music. Whether you’re a longtime fan who lived through the album’s original chaos, or a new listener discovering its genius for the first time, these shows represent a rare alignment of history and hunger.

This isn’t just a band revisiting old material—it’s a living document of innovation, delivered with the same fire that lit it 25 years ago.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of that history.

THE CROXTON ANNOUNCES TWO DAY FESTIVAL – THE CROXTON BLOCK PARTY FOR NOV 1 & 2

Celebrating a decade of live music, Melbourne’s beloved venue The Croxton Bandroom has today unveiled The Croxton Block Party – a huge two-day festival taking over the carpark across from the venue on November 1 and 2. The stacked lineup includes Tropical Fuck Storm, Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, Spiderbait, Ratcat, Floodlights, Party Dozen, Grace Cummings, and more.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday 6 August at 10am from thecroxton.com.au. Limited pre-sale tickets are now live from Oztix.

If the walls of The Croxton Bandroom could talk, the stories would endlessly recall its journey from a quiet and largely empty space into a vibrant and enduring fixture on Australia’s music scene when it relaunched as a contemporary live music venue 10 years ago. A space that has shaped the cultural landscape over the years, hosting everyone from Eagles of Death Metal, Suicidal Tendencies and L7 through to homegrown stars in their formative years, including DZ Deathrays, G Flip and The Chats, a celebration of a jam-packed decade demands a party worthy of The Croxton’s legacy.

As its name suggests, The Croxton Block Party will feature a massive two-day outdoor festival over the first weekend of November, with the event taking over the carpark opposite the venue, complete with a huge stage that will host some of the best live acts Australia has to offer. Headlining the Saturday line-up will be Tropical Fuck Storm, joined by Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, Grace Cummings, Party Dozen, EXEK and Npcede, and members of The Chats and The Prize will get the party started with their brand new band, Loose Lips. Meanwhile, headlining the Sunday lineup will be Spiderbait, along with the legendary Ratcat celebrating the 35th anniversary of their beloved Tingles EP, and Floodlights rounding out the headline acts, backed by two sensational young guitar bands, Sex Mask and Girl and Girl. And kicking off the Sunday vibes will be the sixties-inspired Frankston four-piece getting buzz all over town, The Gnomes.

Synonymous with whipping crowds into a frenzy with their howling brand of rock’n’roll that spawned from The Drones bandmates Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin, Tropical Fuck Storm are as much a Melbourne institution as The Croxton itself. Punctuated by a genre-defiant fusion of art punk, noise rock and experimental rock, Tropical Fuck Storm most recently released their fifth studio album Fairyland Codex in June, have previously released a joint EP with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and won Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album in 2021 for their #7 charting masterpiece Deep States. Throw in millions of streams, performing across the world both as headliners and alongside the likes of Modest Mouse, Kurt Vile and many more and you have a recipe for a show-stopping time this November when Tropical Fuck Storm take the stage; and it’s little wonder Beat Magazine declared “their sound is as powerful as ever, indenting your head into a sonic stupor” after a 2024 headline outing.

“We opened the Croxton 10 years ago with a Drones gig when that part of town still felt miles away from the inner city,” shares Tropical Fuck Storm frontman Gareth Liddiard. “Now it is the inner city which is why it’s wild that we’re going to be playing outside. The stage will be in that big carpark across from the pub.  It’s the first time Simone and Andrew have been able to do that.  Like a mini weekend festival with super cool bands smack bang in the middle of Thornbury and Northcote. Though it’s technically Croxton. It’s going to be huge.”

Also featuring on the Saturday event will be Melbourne act Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, an alternative rock-meets-post-punk and folk blues collective, helmed by singer and guitarist Cash Savage. Earlier this year the band ticked off a huge European run, including their first ever shows in Europe, and for their most recent full-length album, 2023’s So This Is Love, the group were nominated for the ARIA Music Awards’ Best Blues and Roots Album. And there ain’t no party like a Party Dozen party, but luckily you can catch the 2-piece noise band weaving their sonic spells on Saturday 1 November, along with a performance locked in from globally-renowned Melbourne singer-songwriter Grace Cummings.

“I don’t reckon you can have the Melbourne music scene without the Croxton,” says Grace. “I’ve had some of my best musical experiences there both on and off the stage and I can’t wait to say happy anniversary with some of the best bands around.”

And rounding out the stellar Saturday lineup will be post punk innovators EXEK, as well as the buzzy industrial electro trio Npcede and members from The Chats and The Prize getting the block party vibes started with their brand-new band, Loose Lips.

Headlining on Sunday 2 November will be Australian icons Spiderbait, a band who have ticked off almost every Australian music accolade possible throughout their illustrious career including taking home several ARIA Music Awards, a #1 single in the form of their smash cover of Leadbelly’s Black Betty, taking out the covetous #1 spot on triple j’s Hottest 100 for Buy Me A Pony in 1996, amassing millions of streams, and releasing multiple albums that have garnered gold, platinum or double platinum status along the way. But the achievements don’t end there for Spiderbait, with the group also an enduring live drawcard, from sharing stadiums with Guns N’ Roses and Pink through to performing at Splendour In The Grass and Big Day Out – and pretty much every single thing in between. In 2025 alone, the band have toured Europe and the UK, and most recently had two appearances on triple j’s Hottest 100 Australian songs via their fan-fave tracks Black Betty at #90 and Calypso at #95.

“Congrats to the super team at the Croxton on 10 years and thanks for all you’ve brought to the Melbourne music scene,” shares Spiderbait’s Kram. “We’re stoked to be part of the celebration!”

Also heading up Sunday’s block party will be Melbourne rockers Floodlights, who will also arrive armed with their recent 2025 third full-length album Underneath. Wielding an irresistible mix of nostalgic pop and alternative elements into their infectious rock, Floodlights also know exactly how to hit you in right the feels, and that goes double for a live performance.

“The Croxton is an iconic venue that has been a staple in the Naarm music community since we started,” says Floodlights. “We always held it as a dream to play the Croxton and have been lucky enough to have some of our funnest gigs there as a band. We’ve also all been to epic shows as punters, seeing bands like Amyl, The Drones and heaps more, made even better due to the fact we all live in walking distance. Can’t wait to celebrate the 10th birthday, it’s gonna be lit!”

And during the 10th birthday celebrations for The Croxton, Sydney rockers Ratcat will be having a double whammy anniversary, with the group celebrating the 35th anniversary of their hit 1990 EP Tingles; a release which took out #1 position on the Australian charts, and also cracked the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks via That Ain’t Bad. And Spiderbait, Floodlights and Ratcat will be joined by enigmatic Melbourne post punk trio Sex Mask, Brisbane four-piece indie darlings Girl and Girl, and Frankston’s sixties rock-inspired four piece The Gnomes, with the latter kicking off the Sunday event in unforgettable fashion.

“More than a decade since our last show in Melbourne, we’re absolutely stoked to finally be heading back to join the 10th anniversary

celebrations at one of the city’s most important live mainstays, The Croxton,” says Ratcat’s Simon Day.

Alongside the stellar live entertainment throughout both days this November, punters can also look forward to food trucks, bars, merch. Throw in some of the country’s most beloved acts and you’ve got a recipe for everything you need for an exceptional day out in the neighbourhood, with this special anniversary event set to bring the community together in classic Croxton fashion.

“As a music venue with four walls and a stage, The Croxton has been there for decades,” says The Croxton booker Andrew Parisi. “But when we took it on ten years ago, it had fallen into disuse. It was basically empty, except for a faded  Over 28s club that would shuffle in on a Friday night. It was incredible to me that this amazing space, in the heart of one of the best neighbourhoods in the inner north, was just languishing. And I knew that if we set it up right, built the right culture around it, it would be an awesome live music venue.”

“We had to start fresh and build it from the ground up, and make people feel at home,” Andrew continues. “The Croxton has always felt like a community to us, from the staff who have been with us for a decade, to the artists who keep coming back to play, to the audiences who come through our doors for shows. We take a lot of pride in what we have built here – it’s more than just four walls and a stage. We are part of the essential DNA of this city, which is a thriving music scene. It’s important to Melbourne and it’s important to us.”

“Over the last ten years, we’ve had multiple shows from amazing international acts like Sleater-Kinney, The Hold Steady, Osees and Eagles of Death Metal,” adds fellow Croxton booker Simone Ubaldi. “We hosted the first-ever Australian gigs for artists like UK rap superstar Dave, Idles, Future Islands, Black Midi, Khruangbin, Sleaford Mods, Faye Webster and Phoebe Bridgers, and incredible reunion shows from bands like Pixies, Gang of Four, Swervedriver, Teenage Fanclub, Radio Birdman, Suicidal Tendencies, Helmet, L7, They Might Be Giants, and so many more.”

“We’re proud to have hosted Australian artists whose careers were just starting to blossom, like DZ Deathrays, G Flip, Confidence Man, The Chats, King Stingray, The Teskey Brothers, Skegss and Angie McMahon,” Simone adds. “But more than anything else, we’re proud to have been a home to local heroes like The Murlocs, Floodlights, Cash Savage and The Last Drinks, Tropical Fuck Storm, Cosmic Psychos, Civic, RVG and The Smith Street Band. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – the greatest live band in the world – has played The Croxton eight times in the last ten years. Amyl and The Sniffers – the other greatest live band in the world – has played at the venue six times.”

“The fact that The Croxton has had a place in their globe-conquering journeys is mind-blowing,” Simone concludes. “It reminds us that being part of a local music scene really means something. We’re part of an ecosystem that connects local artists to the world.”

The Croxton Block Party will storm the Croxton carpark on Saturday 1 November and Sunday 2 November.

News: HORROR DOWNUNDER! KIM DRACULA & WEDNESDAY 13 ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN TOUR FOR NOVEMBER!

Complicated. Genius. Iconic. There is only one Kim Dracula.

From humble beginnings in our own Apple Isle to recognition as a bona fide international superstar collaborating with the likes of Korn’s Jonathan Davis to Tech N9ne, SeeYouSpaceCowboy and In This Moment; Kim Dracula’s journey is the stuff of legends. Hard work and sacrifice is a given, but at the end it is undisputed talent as a vocalist (with a freakish range), musician, songwriter and the most wicked sense of humour and style that sets KD so far above the fray.

Following the monumental success of the 2023 debut album, A Gradual Decline In Morale, which has amassed well over 60 million streams worldwide, Kim Dracula continues to redefine modern music with an unapologetic fusion of nu-metal, trap, industrial, jazz, and hyperpop.

Kim Dracula’s live shows are a sensory overload, blending theatricality, raw energy, and genre-bending chaos. From wielding chainsaws to emerging from coffins, the performances have solidified a reputation as a must-see artist.

“It’s not just a concert it’s a full-on experience. We’re here to shake things up and leave you questioning everything. I’m dying to bring this madness home to Australia!”

Joining KD for this most triumphant homecoming is the absolute legend, Wednesday 13 who returns on the back of a sold out Australian tour in 2023 celebrating his former band Murderdolls.

The pairing of Kim Dracula and Wednesday 13 is a stroke of evil genius. Fast and dirty, raw, chaotic and macabre. It’s tongue-in-cheek horror done to perfection. Murderdolls and Wednesday 13 defined an entire subculture, Kim Dracula has raised the (wooden) stakes and thrown gasoline on the fire.

News: Tour Announcement | Bullet For My Valentine Announce 2025 Australian Headline Tour With Special Guests While She Sleeps & The Devil Wears Prada

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE
2025 AUSTRALIAN HEADLINE TOUR
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
WHILE SHE SLEEPS (USA) + THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (USA)
Australia, come wake the demon this October when British mainstays BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE return down under for their biggest ever Australian headline tour, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album The Poison as well as a horde of fan-favourites, joined by special guests WHILE SHE SLEEPS (USA) and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (USA).

Commencing on Wednesday 15 October in Melbourne, this epic arena run will journey to Sydney on Thursday 16 Octoberand close out on Saturday 18 October in Brisbane, with each show also switching up supports and alternating slots each night between WHILE SHE SLEEPS and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA.

Forming in the late 90s, Welsh behemoths BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE went on to become an unwavering pillar for metal and British music in general, releasing their debut album The Poison in 2005 and never looking back. Between their 2008 album Scream Aim Fire and 2010 third full-length Fever, through to their most recent outing, 2021’s self-titled album, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE have also amassed over 3.5 million album sales to date and counting, while also ticking off sold out performances across the globe, multiple award wins and nominations, ongoing chart success, a legion of diehard fans worldwide and plenty of hits spanning decades; many of which will be on full display for Australian fans this October.

On a live front, whether performing with Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold, or commanding attention on festival stages including Download Festival, Rock am Ring and Good Things Festival closer to home, it’s little wonder The Guardian recently showcased BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE‘s “laser-driven performance”, while New Noise Magazine praised the band for “demonstrating why they’re one of the modern metalcore legends” during the group’s most recent North American tour.

Surging off the release of their 2010 EP The North Stands For Nothing, English metalcore act WHILE SHE SLEEPS have evolved into an era-defining metal band. With infectious hooks, a punk attitude and seething metal balanced with injections of pop, electronics and conscious lyrics over the years, WHILE SHE SLEEPS have never been a band phased by expectations; and they have the legacy and ongoing adoration to prove it. A defiantly DIY act, WHILE SHE SLEEPS established their own label, self-manage, demo and produce their own material, and also build their own stage propps that have followed them on blockbuster tours throughout five continents. Most recently releasing their sixth studio album Self Hell in 2024, WHILE SHE SLEEPS‘ return to Australia this October will offer fans a chance to witness new and old favourites while also taking in the magnetic live performance that has seen the band in demand both as headliners and supporting the likes of Architects, Asking Alexandria and Parkway Drive.

One of the most beloved metalcore acts in the scene, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA have remained a continual force since forming back in 2005. With six consecutive Top 5 debuts on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart, including 2011’s Dead Throne, 2013’s 8:18, 2015’s Space EP, 2016’s Transit Blues, 2019’s The Act and 2021’s ZII EP, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA also cemented their status in 2009 via the seminal With Roots Above and Branches Below, which was dubbed one of the “5 Greatest Metalcore Albums” in a Revolver poll, and christened by the magazine as “a true metalcore landmark”. Karvinool

August 02

PICA, Melbourne

After locking themselves away in a Perth studio for the better part of five months (third time’s the charm, apparently), Karnivool have resurfaced with purpose. This run of shows will be the first chance for Australian audiences to hear what’s been cooking behind closed doors and get a taste of the next chapter of Karnivool before the rest of the world.

The Perth Prog band performed at PICA in Melbourne and Dan Sedick was there to catch the action.

Brazen Barbie Unleashes Her Boldest Era Yet with New Mixtape ‘BRAZEN’

Grit, glam, and unfiltered attitude collide as Kenyan-Australian artist Brazen Barbie drops her hotly anticipated mixtape BRAZEN, alongside the standout new single Deep End  — out now.

A kaleidoscopic portrait of resilience, sass, and self-awareness, BRAZEN is a genre-bending, 12-track mixtape that walks the line between vulnerability and bravado. It’s not just music — it’s diary entries you can dance to.

Leading the charge is Ain’t No Dummy, the very first track locked in for the project — and the one that set the tone for everything that followed. “I wrote it during a time when I felt like people kept underestimating me,” Brazen Barbie shares. “In relationships, friendships, life. I wanted something bold, bratty, but still smart. There’s a real tension in choosing chaos — but doing it on your terms.”

With BRAZEN, Brazen Barbie brings her boldest self to the surface — showing off not only the bars, but the brains and bruises behind them. It’s her most personal, potent, and playful body of work to date.

Whether it’s the glittering menace of Doomsday, the swagger of Can’t Hang, or the soul-stirring resilience of Anyway, each track is layered with meaning and intention — even when delivered with a wink.

Having already turned heads at BIGSOUND, SXSW, Sydney Fringe Festival, and Promiseland, Brazen Barbie is no stranger to commanding a stage — or a space. Her Acclaim Magazine All Stars Class of ’24 nod and features in VICE, triple j Unearthed, and Life Without Andy to name just a few, only reinforce what’s already clear: she’s not here to follow. She’s here to lead.

BRAZEN is a self-portrait,” she concludes. “Each track is a snapshot of a different mood or moment in my life, and a different version of the voice in my head. I wanted it to feel like turning up, in your head, and in a diary all at once.”

BRAZEN is out now on all platforms. Play it loud, feel it fully, and don’t say you weren’t warned.
