ALBUM ‘DON’T BANK YOUR HEART ON IT’ OUT NOW

Eccentric and brash, Eli Greeneyes has today announced his deeply confessional new single 21, a chaotic yet content exploration into getting older and losing control, out today, November 25. The moving single is accompanied by a scenic video clip, filmed in collaboration with the artist’s closest friends. After a relocation back home due to COVID-19, the release of 21 feels poignant – a young person wondering what on earth is going to happen next.

Evocative of exciting artists such as YUNGBLUD and DMAs, but also with clear influences from the classics – Oasis, The Verve – 21 has that instant-classic feel; like a song you already know, but can’t place. It feels ready-made for summer, roadtrips, lazy afternoon swims and drinks in the backyard. Guitars glisten, percussion rambles along at a reassuring pace – but the real star is Eli Greeneyes’ ear-catching vocal. Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Eli explains, “I wrote it in about 15 minutes about how depressed and scared I was about living my life the way I truly wanted to at 21 years old…I was becoming my own person and for some reason the thought of that was terrifying. A lot of this song is about figuring out who I am and feeling like I realised it too late, looking back at wasted time and how I wasn’t sucking the marrow out of life like I should’ve been. I was so pent up with childhood trauma and all that bullshit that I wasn’t seeing and enjoying all the positive things in front of me.”

The clip for 21 feels as warm as the track itself, perfectly set in a deeply saturated lawn with a knowing nod towards the 90s influences behind the song with the use of a fisheye lens. The clip was made in collaboration with his close friend Connor Maher and partner Alex Maher, as Eli reflects, “I have never made a multi shot video before (only one shots), so the video is basically me not knowing what I’m doing and trying a whole bunch of angles and speeds of shooting. Just singing the song at the lens around the farm. I did have the shots planned-ish in terms of being slowed down or sped up, but that’s about as much planning that went into it…just a cool clip! I really like learning by just doing things I guess and getting my girlfriend or my mate to just point and shoot and see what happens.”

Mixed by Andy Lawson (Little Birdy, Eskimo Joe, Gyroscope) and mastered by William Bowden (Gotye, The Middle East, Miami Horror), 21 feels like a time capsule, something to look back on to remember what you were feeling during a particular time in your life. Personalities, thoughts, beliefs – these are all things that are subject to change, as Eli concludes, “At that age, I did the best I could, and will always be figuring it out. No one person is 100 percent buddha with all the answers. We’re all bit of a mess sometimes but I feel on the other side of that mess is a power that can’t be taught by being scared or worried all the time.

The HU debut their ‘hunnu rock’ cover of Metallica’s “Sad But True” today, along with a music video. Endorsed by Metallica themselves, the track is a unique take on the beloved classic that has over 142 Million streams on Spotify alone. It is with a heavy heart that Australia’s favourite alternative music festival, Good Things Festival won’t be rockin’ up the East Coast this year. To our Good Things family, we know you love your mosh pits sweaty, your t-shirts black and the live shows spectacular. We know Parkway Drive delivered this in spades as our headliner last year, but just wait to see what we have in store for you next year! We had been working tirelessly on the 2020 line-up for over a year and we are thrilled to announce that all our confirmed acts for this year have signed on for 2021. Kicking off in Melbourne, the all ages tour will also take on Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydneyacross early September 2021 for YUNGBLUD’S biggest shows to date.

Brooding and enigmatic, Thomas Keating has today announced his yearner of a new single, Cold Night, out today November 6. Inspired by distance, a cold Melbourne winter, and dreary early mornings, Cold Night is an exciting addition to Thomas’s glowing discography. The track is also accompanied by a stunning clip, directed by Kieran Gilfeather.

Evocative of Elliot Smith, Phoebe Bridgers and Angie McMahon, Cold Night is a broody rambler, made for grey mornings and stomping through puddles in the rain. Thomas’s gentle voice wraps around a slow, steady beat as delicate strings float around the arrangement, like the silver lining on a cloud. The track was mixed by Thomas himself, produced by Gordon Burke and mastered by Nick Franklin, and reflects a deep sense of yearning, of wanting, as Thomas explains, “A few years ago, I moved to Melbourne for the year. I moved in the middle of winter, I was living in Fitzroy and I was feeling pretty down and lonely since I hardly knew anyone in this new city, and I could not believe how cold it was! I was working at this café at the time and I would start at 6 in the morning and walk to work. I came up with lyric for the chorus as I was walking to work one morning.”

Directed by Kieran Gilfeather, the video for Cold Night is dark and intimate, as Thomas is silhouetted both seated at the piano and beside another figure in a car, driving the streets in the glowing night. It’s mysterious, almost incomplete, and keeps the viewer on their toes as the story progresses. Wordless frustrations peak between the couple in the car, until the only thing left in sight is the rear window. “Kieran and I came up with the concept together. I wanted to do something with the video clip that expressed the yearning and lonely feeling I was experiencing when I wrote the song,” says Thomas. “I wanted to use the video to express the difficulties that can be experienced in a relationship, how love can be beautiful but also complicated at the same time”.

Cold Night is a highlight for Thomas in what has been a challenging year, as he explains, “It’s been a really interesting time. It has pretty much taken touring and performing off the table for me. I moved into a new studio though, with a bunch of other musicians, so I have actually really enjoyed the time writing and collaborating.”
