With winter ramping up you can’t help but long for those beautiful spring days sitting at Stuart Park, basking in the weekend long festivities of Yours & Owls Festival. For the kids out there contemplating fake ID’s to see what the fuss is all about, don’t worry – we got you!

Yours & Owls are throwing an all ages party on Saturday October 5 at UOW Uni Hall kicking off at 12pm, and have hand selected some of the best Aussie talent from the line-up including Angie McMahon, Baker Boy, Eves Karydas, Kwame, Ruel and Skegss.

Without even so much as an EP to her name, Angie McMahon has been the exact opposite of a “Slow Mover” in the Australian music scene. She’s opened for the likes of Paul Kelly and Alanis Morrissette, scored over 15 million streams on Spotify alone and has already made major inroads internationally. 2019 sees McMahon release her long-awaited debut album, Salt – and we can’t wait to get a taste.

Since dropping the irresistible “Cloud 9” and “Marryuna” in 2017, Baker Boy has had all of Australia dancing to his beat. The fresh prince of Arnhem Land had a massive 2018, including shows with childhood heroes like Dizzee Rascal, Yothu Yindi and 50 Cent, as well as releasing killer singles like “Mr. La Di Da Di” and “Black Magic.” He then proceeded to kick off 2019 with a prime spot on the Laneway line-up and a groovy new tune, the aptly-titled “Cool as Hell.” What’s next for this multilingual legend? You’ll have to come along and see for yourself.

Eves Karydas has been on her best behaviour recently. The Brisbane electro-pop singer-songwriter dropped her debut album, Summerskin, in September of 2018. She’s also toured nationally in support of pop giants like Dua Lipa, Cub Sport and George Ezra, honing her stagecraft along the way. With a headlining tour of her own in the can from February, Karydas is certifiably festival-ready.

Here comes that boy Kwame, just off an extensive national jaunt with Peking Duk. The Western Sydney hip-hop star has been bubbling under for a while now, but he broke through in a major way in 2018 thanks to an all-killer EP in Endless Conversations and a show-stopping Kendrick Lamar cover on Triple J’s Like a Version. In 2019, there’s plenty more where that came from.

At the ripe old age of 16, Ruel is 2019’s global pop heartthrob with a homegrown back-story. A cult following has quickly escalated into one of the most dedicated fan-bases in the world, with the singer promptly selling out everywhere from New York City to the Sydney Opera House. That’s all on the back of one EP, too – imagine where this kid will go when his second one drops.

What kind of year has it been for Skegss since the release of their debut album, My Own Mess? One of sold-out shows in every city, two spots in the Triple J Hottest 100, a #2 debut on the ARIA album charts and en-masse sing-alongs at every festival under the sun. Skegss return to Wollongong as heroes – at least, bigger heroes than they already were. Welcome to the party.

Manila-based artist Pamcyreleases her highly-anticipated debut LP BINIBINI, a stunningly addictive and transformative collection of 8 DIY-House tracks. BINIBINI (a honorific term for women in Filipino not commonly used today) is Pamcy’s second release through Healthy Tapes and features the singles Beauty Parlor and Sinigang na Hipon.

In making the record, Pamcy picked everyday experiences, concepts, and objects that have somehow shaped her identity, and on a larger scale, are cultural artefacts of femininity. From these, she reimagined all the resulting colours, flavours, experiences and textures and turned them into music.

Since releasing her debut release Piso Isa last year, Pamcy has used her platform to empower other female and non-binary musicians in the Philippines, encouraging more diverse lineups and recently appearing on the cover of broadsheet Young Star in a feature on making the local music scene a safe space.

She has also contributed to compilations from Z Tapes and Tropical Diskoral, was playlisted by FBi Radio and her cassette was included in Indie Manila’s Top 10 Albums/EPs of 2018. Pamcy’s debut LP BINIBINI will be out via Healthy Tapesdigitally and on limited cassette on July 30th

19th July 2019 is the detonation date for Melbourne heavy act Wither! They are set to unleash a whole new level of panic into the world with the announcement of their new single ‘Use Me’. The new single is a standalone follow-up to their acclaimed debut EP ‘Rot and I’.

To all who thought Wither’s debut output was heavy, prepare to be buried under the weight of this all-out assault, aimed directly at social climbers.

Witherʼs story started with conversations between friends in the downtime between tours and recording sessions – and the five members found time to explore their own sound together.

Artists David De La Hoz (Belle Haven), Jamie Marinos, Luke Weber (Dream On Dreamer), Liam Fowler (Pridelands) and Jeremy Hughes have played alongside, recorded or produced one anotherʼs music in different projects for years – and it became clear that it was time to pull their experience together to form Wither.

After releasing ʻRot and Iʼ at the end of 2018, the band wasted no time living up to their media appointed title of “Super Group” by selling out their first show at The Workers Club in Melbourne. Doko entered this world in late 2015 as a band trying to find their feet in a post lockout law Sydney. They have gigged up and down the East Coast searching for an identity and sound of their own, from playing full capacity headline shows, to playing to three people in a rural pub. Doko have spent the last year writing and recording a handful of singles with ARIA award winning producer Steven Schram (San Cisco, I Know Leopard), building on their sound, taking influence from New Wave acts of the late 70s & 80s. After being energised by the enthusiastic crowds on a recent NSW tour for their last single ‘Break Open’, Doko are gearing up for a six-date tour of the east coast in support of their new single ‘Borrowed Time’.

One of Sydney’s most iconic venues, a campion of live music who stuck it to the pokies. Great sound and even a greater green room, overlooking Broadway with a mini fridge stocked with Young Henrys.

Oxford Art Factory – Darlinghurst

We’ve seen so many great artists at this venue. With a main room for larger touring acts and a side room for the smaller local artists, it’s really quite an inclusive venue with a lot to offer. Sometimes you get lucky enough to play the main stage and you’ll leave the building feeling like you just played ANZ stadium.

Hotel Styne – Manly

The band room at the Hotel Styne is the shining north star of the Sydney live scene. Over the years, artists like Ocean Alley and Winston Surfshirt have cut their teeth playing the venue. With free shows every week, artists leave with heavy pockets after playing to a crowd of locals and backpackers, what’s not to love.

Metro Theatre – Sydney

The Metro Theatre, The Crown Jewel of the Sydney music scene. It’s grimy, a little sticky and by no means the best sounding venue, but the amount of good times which have been had in this room is unparalleled to any other.

The Vanguard – Newtown

And finally, The Vanguard. An iconic King Street establishment who have graciously gifted us their high rise stage to launch our new single ‘Borrowed Time’ on the 3rd of August. One of our favourite rooms to play, even fitted out with an indoor balcony overlooking the stage. Go feel like a million bucks with a drink in your hand watching us crack out banger after banger.

Polish Club is a rock duo from Sydney formed in 2014. The duo is made up of David Novak and John-Henry Pajak. Their debut album Alright Already was nominated for the 2017.

The world-first of its kind festival A Hitch To The Sticks returns in 2019, bringing Tex Perkins & His Fat Rubber Band, Magic Dirt, Stonefield, Ella Hooper, Dallas Crane and more to stages across the Wangaratta region.

Bachelor Girl, Cookin’ On 3 Burners, Davidson Brothers, Emilee South and much more will also lend their considerable talents to the third iteration of the regional festival on November1-3 (Melbourne Cup Weekend).

A Hitch To The Sticks was born when Wangaratta-bred Australian rock legend/co-festival director Dallas Frasca joined forces with her business partner in crime Renee Delahunty. The pair’s mission? To bring city and regional punters together for a celebration of live music that embraces regional history, local artists and produce, indigenous culture and unique event spaces while utilising Wangaratta’s spectacular country landscape as its backdrop.

A Hitch To The Sticks captured the imagination of the Australian music industry when it launched the out of the box concept of offering 50 lucky punters a once in a lifetime experience to travel from Melbourne’s CBD, three hours north-east on a three-day musical bus safari,to discover the hidden gems of the Wangaratta region. AHTTS ran two enormously successful events across North East Victoria in 2018 with music lovers treated to exclusive performances by renowned Australian and international headliners including, but not limited to, Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe), Kate Ceberano, Jebediah, Killing Heidi and Tim Rogers (You Am I). The March incarnation of A Hitch To The Sticks attracted a staggering 4,600 music fans to events, injecting over $392,000 into the local economy.

As part of A Hitch To The Sticks’ ongoing commitment to reinvigorating the North East Victorian live music scene, The Rodeo Grounds (behind the Showgrounds) will be activated as a brand new live music location for the region and will be host to one of the three, huge family-friendly events that’s set to take place over the Melbourne Cup weekend as a part of the program.

Consisting of hip-hop producer Judah, multi-instrumentalist Jayke and indie-pop vocalist Ayla (heard on triple j under her own project), ‘Forrest Run’ are bringing their worlds together into an exciting new project.

Their first two releases (‘All We Needed’ and ‘Let Me Fall’) both scored rotation on unearthed radio, and reviews from presenters including:
“It’s pretty stuff all round here. The smart production twists, Ayla’s flawless vocal and the sense of everyday drama is great.” – Declan Byrne.

Forrest Run have also: supported Boo Seeka, landed on Caloundra Music Festival and worked on a debut EP (yet unreleased) with renowned producer Tim Carr (Matt Corby, Le Pie etc.). Their third single ‘Summer’ dropped on the 20^th of June, and has already featured on Apple Music’s ‘Best of the Week’ playlist, and picked itself up some great reviews, including this from Caesar Live N Loud:
“I am really enjoying the electronic production which has a captivating chilled out and summery atmosphere… rich textures, sun-soaked guitar riffs and atmospheric touches.”
