HILLTOP HOODS have broken yet another milestone. Their brand-new album ‘The Great Expanse’ has debuted #1 on this week’s ARIA Album chart bringing the band’s total of #1 Album’s to an incredible 6. The Great Escape also becomes the fifth consecutive album by the trio to debut #1 on the ARIA Album Chart.

With album number eight, the trio have created another statement of intent. And if anyone was thinking that things would be slowing down at this point then you’re in for a shock. Nine ARIA Awards, multi-platinum sales, half a billion global streams and songs embedded in the national consciousness, the legacy of the Hilltop Hoods is already undeniable. The Adelaide group only days ago finished Eminem’s mammoth Rapture tour, playing main support to over 300,000 fans across Australia and New Zealand, including the monumental record-breaking performance at the MCG in Melbourne.
Alongside today’s announcement, Hilltop Hoods have released the video for their new single ‘Exit Sign’, featuring Ecca Vandal, which also boasts a special guest appearance from the Hoods close friend and ally, Illy.

‘Exit Sign’ was one of the more collaborative moments on the album. One Above (who we’ve worked with on tracks such as ‘1955’, ‘I Love It’ & ‘Higher’) produced the song, Sarah Aarons wrote the hook and Illy & Ecca Vandal jumped on vocals with us. We find ourselves having less and less patience in a nightclub environment, and that’s basically the essence of the song and the film clip. We had a lot of fun making both and neither are meant to be taken too seriously, ‘ says Suffa.
‘Exit Sign’ follows the platinum selling hit ‘Leave Me Lonely’, released mere weeks before Hottest 100 voting closed, it still reached #24 in the music democracy and became a commercial crossover hit (number one most added to radio in Australia on release.) The album also features ARIA Award winning Gold single ‘Clark Griswold’ (Feat. Adrian Eagle), with the official video already amassing over 1.7M views!
Hilltop Hoods graced the stages in 2018 across Splendour In The Grass, a sold-out UK and European Tour, plus Falls Festival, and will now prepare for Groovin’ The Moo Festival.

Truly composing an unforgettable tenth anniversary celebration, Bad Friday today adds a third stage and final acts to its already monstrous line up. Introducing new things this year, the new stage will take place inside and cater to electronic and hip-hop – Boiler Room style.

Headlining the festivities are unconventional pop leaders Haiku Hands who will surely get you dancing with their outrageous and boldly choreographed live show. Catch hits and crowd favourites ‘Not About You’, ‘Jupiter’, ‘Squat’ and ‘Dare You Not To Dance’.

From Coachella to Boiler Room, Nina Las Vegas has done it all and come April she can add Bad Friday to her extensive list of festival sets. Enter the dance tent to see her set full of originals and unearthed underground dance gems, cementing why she’s a leading purveyor in our electronic scene.

One half of iconic Australian music duo The Presets, K.I.M (Kim Moyes) has released a cavalcade of solo music and collaborated with the likes of Kirin J Callinan, Digitalism and Beni. Expect to hear a number of his high calibre remixes from Kings of Leon and Tiga, to Bag Raiders and Midnight Juggernauts when he takes the Bad Friday stage.

Further inclusions include party perfecters Human Movement who’ve supported Deadmau5 and performed in Ibiza and Croatia, local maestro Dro Carey who will navigate a sonic journey through a set of house, grime, garage and bass, Melbourne producer and genre-bender Christopher Port who was named in Purple Sneakers ‘Artists to Watch in 2018’, and up and coming rap prodigy Yibby . Or get yourself moving to DJ sets from local advocate Luen, party favourites Fox Force II and Absolutely Everybody & Friends.

These additions join already announced headliners and local heavy weights DMA’S – who recently received three entries in triple’s Hottest 100 – and plunderphonic legends The Avalanches performing in DJ mode. The UK’s disco-soul juggernauts Jungle will take out the title of the festival’s first international act. Brisbane’s party rock legends DZ Deathrays will play alongside guitar toting siblings Lime Cordiale, both of whom are fresh from placing in the recent Hottest 100. Also celebrating ten years in the game The Jezabels will play alongside new project Shogun and the Sheets from the infamous Royal Headache crew, and teeth bared and no fucks given Tropical Fuck Storm are ready to barrage punters with the anarchy of their debut album.

Populating the second stage will be mainly locals only, from psych-pop lords World Champion to rapidly rising glam punks Johnny Hunter. Melbourne lo-fi impressers RVG will offer a heavy dose of confessional retro-pop, and serving up the sweatiest set of the day garage lords Crocodylus. Bad Friday will also feature sets from up and coming favourites Georgia June, pop enigma Holiday Sidewinder, grungey punks 100, riot grrl’s The Buoys, indie rockers Planet, Newtown’s self-confessed shittest band Scabz, and dream-pop trio Baby Beef.

Unparalleled for championing home-grown talent, these new additions bump the festival’s overall bill to 80% hailing from Sydney; a testament to our great city when it needs it most.

The addition of an international act isn’t the only thing Bad Friday have changed up this year. Migrating once again, the festival will take place at Marrickville’s leafy Fraser Park – the heart of the Inner West, surrounded by freight lines and warehouses.

The festival once again encourages attendees to donate to two local charities when picking up their tickets: Youth Off The Streets and the Aboriginal Women and Children’s Crisis Service (formerly Marrickville Women’s Refuge).

Already on their final ticket release, this year’s Bad Friday will surely be a sell out after the pre-sale and first release were exhausted in a combined seven minutes.

Voyager have released their first musical offering under new label Season of Mist. ‘Brightstar’ is the brand new single by Perth’s pop/prog quintet, unleashing a track that builds from an 80’s inspired synth based intro to a stratospheric new-romantic chorus, enlightening fans with melodies and harmonies that build up to the track’s apex that is out of this world. The outfit premiered the brilliant video at UK’s Prog Mag.

Directed by Red Empire Media, Voyager’s Perth-fect music video encompasses the quintessential nature of Western Australia, displaying the relationship between science, art, and nature. With a montage of drone footage taken from Parkes, CSIRO and MRO Space Satellite sites across Western Australia, Voyager explores the synergy of how science and creative expression go hand in hand.

Danny Estrin, frontman for Voyager says this about the allegory behind his lyrics – “Brightstar is about the power of rationality, of the importance of science as an art, of facts, of the demise of empirical evidence in favour of blind belief in idols who spit forth a torrent of nonsense and generally about not believing in something or someone because it’s shiny and bright and promises a warm blanket of comfort.”

“It’s so refreshing to be playing in such wide open spaces and to use technology to create art… There was definitely something magical about the beauty of this blisteringly hot part of the country and I think this clip will capture that magic. We are proud to be from Perth and we want our fans to see what we see. We also want them to know that we almost burnt to a crisp on 40-degree heat to bring them this visual treat!”

The new single comes just days before Voyager embark on Australian dates with Twelve Foot Ninja and also a performance at Download Festival Australia (Sydney and Melbourne)!

Gearing up for its third year, Wine Machine is set to kick off its 2019 edition this month, hitting Tasmania, New South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria and the ACT, descending on iconic wineries in each state.

Scott Riley is a storyteller who knows intimately the trials and hard fought success of working the land. The West Australian songwriter draws on his connection to the land and for the past 17 years of performing and writing has cultivated his craft. It is now in 2019, that Scott has decided to share his first official single, Hard Luck.

A tireless worker, Scott had previously split his talent between covers and originals. In 2012, Scott made it through to the semi-finals of the Telstra Road to Discovery competition. The success of past winners, country music star Morgan Evans, and Jessica Mauboy, one of Australia’s top female artists, focusing his energy.

Having previously recorded several unreleased albums with which he shared at select moments. Scott travelled to the picturesque coastal city of Albany, WA to record his music. He enjoys bringing the music he makes to life. Produced by Michael Crannage, Scott Riley’s muse elicits tales of modern pressures, adjusting to life in the city, anxiety and restlessness, mental fatigue and mental health issues in the wider community.

Keenly aware of the dynamics of regional life, Hard Luck is about looking back on the adversity of growing up on a farm, while at the same time wishing it was possible and devising ways to save enough money to buy the property one day. The song has been described by Australian National Broadcaster Triple J’s Nkechi Anele as a country version of REM’s Losing My Religion.

With a full album under production, Hard Luck signifies Scott Riley’s pursuit of prosperity, knowing the value implicit in hard work and balancing the uncertainty in an honest toil. The sincerity in his voice illuminating the all too familiar conflict of doubt and determination only dispelled by Scott’s compassion, grit and unwavering dedication to song.

Hailing from rural New South Wales, emerging alternative rapper Cecil has released a moody Lo-Fi EP ‘Candlelit Comedown’.
‘Candlelit Comedown’ is centred around the idea of the arc of a comedown, it delves into the constant cycle of ascension, euphoria and the inevitable slump and comedown in everyday life.
On the EP, Cecil said, “The EP is structured to follow this arc in mood, sound and content, however each individual track has its own issues and ideas to tackle, giving each track its own unique voice,”
“It touches on love, my relationship with hip hop, vices, nostalgia and self-doubt/self- assurance. I want the listeners to find solace in the idea of the comedown, as although it is lowest point, its also the catalyst for the come up,”
Cecil is a 20-year-old rapper from Wellington, in rural NSW. Growing up in rural NSW, Cecil highlights that there isn’t a lot of positive things to do. Rap gave Cecil the opportunity to create and express himself in a healthy manner and allow him to represent and give thanks to his area. With a lack of music and creative scenes in rural NSW, coupled with negative portrayals of his home-town in the media, the rapper wants to change the public’s perspective towards youth in rural areas and encourage kids in low- opportunity areas to follow their dreams and create their own path.
Cecil started rapping in 2016 and released his debut single ‘Refractions’ in 2017. The rapper found streaming success with his single ’Daisy Dupe’ which features in ‘Candlelit Comedown’. Cecil is stylistically varied, often mixing lo-fi beats with dark mature lyrics, however he does not shy away from creating smooth groove inspired vocals to compliment up-lifting beats.
Cecil often tackles vices, love, past experiences and his relationship with rap and is influenced by Rejjie Snow, Loyle Carner, Mac Miller, Allday, Remi, Jamie T, Amine, MF Doom and Earl Sweatshirt.
