My Dream Rider – Charlie Lane

Hi! I’m Charlie Lane and I’m a Naarm/Melbourne based singer-songwriter. I’ve grown up listening to an array of blues artists such as Buddy Guy & Stevie Ray Vaughan thanks to my dad, and a lot of epic singer- songwriters like Joni Michell & Kate Bush, courtesy of my mum. My music falls under the indie pop/rock  genre somewhere. The Point Music News described ‘Gold Drips’ which has just been released as my first single off my upcoming album as “blues-rock, balanced with sassiness with a touch of ocker”, I thought that was pretty nice.

My Dream Rider

  1. Fruit platter – like the biggest. (who doesn’t need a fruit platter)
  2. Hydrolyte – all the flavours
  3. King adjustable bed and sleep mask because who doesn’t want comfort.
  4. Masseuse, like one that gets right in there ( my back is breaking after last night’s show. It would be a dream!)
  5. Records, cd’s, tapes to get that inspiration going.
  6. Rom coms and old movies. Nothing like a long night and staring at a bowl of popcorn, and quoting Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion.
  7. Cobs popcorn – sweet & salty. A crap load.
  8. Moro bars. Also a crap load.
  9. My favorite book – Monkey Grip. You always need a good book.
  10. Yamaha Disklavier grand piano because they sound so bloody good.

MY DREAM RIDER – EMMA YUE

Howdy!! I’m Emma, a Naarm (Melbourne) based songwriter with way (way) too many feelings that I know what to do with. I write indie pop rock music for my fellow sad girlies, and if drinking some wine and listening to Taylor Swift is your idea of a perfect evening in then I might be your next favourite artist!!

My Dream Rider

  • At least 12 dogs (I don’t know if this can count as one item but I’ve decided it can) because dogs are the best
  • My friends but specifically when they’re well rested and have eaten and drunk enough water
  • A good book that perfectly fits the vibe I’m after at the time
  • A personal chef because me and cooking are not friends. Alternatively, a really good burrito bowl. Excellent snack.
  • A fullsize pipe organ. I wanna play Darth Vader’s theme on it exclusively when people I don’t like are around. But also specifically when my best friends are around. Let them wonder which category they fall in to.
  • Bean bag chairs. Constant comfort.
  • A masseuse. Let me dream big ok.
  • Endless oil paints and canvases. I feel like it would take the pressure off to create something good and make the most of the materials, imagine the possibilities.
  • A high quality record player and speakers will every Taylor Swift album she owns on vinyl. Immaculate vibes (albeit emotional ones) all round.
  • The perfect glass of wine for whatever environemnt/mood I’m in. I love a wine. Red or white, both are excellent.

MY DREAM RIDER – SAINTHILL

I’m Sainthill (aka Tom Larkey) a Melbourne-based, Hobart-born musician raised on a steady diet of Bruce Springsteen courtesy of my mum. I make a kind of dreampop/indie rock/folk hybrid with a sprinkling of shoegaze. I’ve been described by music critic Marty Jones as making ‘intelligent, beautiful music’ which is quite nice of him to say. My new album ‘Dream Animal’ is coming out March 1st.

10 items on your rider

  1. Lots of good cold beer (and plenty of stubby holders to go round)
  2. Too much pizza
  3. A bunch of kittens. It might be hard finding them all at the end of the night though
  4. A brand new Fender Tele that was magically gifted to me
  5. An eye mask for when it’s nap time (maybe a king size bed to go with the eyemask)
  6. A massive record collection so I can chuck on some tunes before and after the show
  7. A photo album of loved ones if I’m on the road
  8. A Nintendo Switch loaded up with Zelda: TOTK to pass the time
  9. A crossword book (gotta be Lovatts, they’re the best ones) to pass any extra time
  10. I’m sure everyone says this, but M&Ms with the brown ones taken out

My Dream Rider: NAOMI DIANE

Yaama! I’m Naomi Diane, a Gamilaroi singer songwriter grooving around Naarm/Melbourne. I was born and raised in Wollongong, studied a music degree in Sydney then moved to Naarm to study a Master of Teaching. This is my debut as a solo artist, but I’ve been gigging and recording with some amazing Naarm based bands for over a year now. I enjoy tinkering on piano and stringed instruments.

Theme of everything below: boujee

  1. Discoball (especially an excellent lighting set up)
  2. Star shaped lights: so they can sparkle along with the disco ball and make the roof look like the night sky
  3. Gum tree branches: I like to bring the outside in.. It’s a good way to yarn about what grows locally between tunes
  4. Turkish handmade rugs: I window shopped in a Turkish rug shop on High St this week, every piece is so divine and they feel good under your feet. So naturally, I’ll cover the whole stage in them so I dance and perform barefoot and feel great at the same time
  5. Upright piano next to the keyboard: Ya never know, I might just crack out a jazz standard in middle of this banging indie pop set
  6. Shure KSM8 for all vocals: it’s the new and improved SM58
  7. Hepburn springs water: Naarm local spring water (just to be fancy)
  8. Herbal tea: I try not to drink at gigs unless it’s a special one. But the sounds of this rider it probably is a big deal show, so I’d pair my tea with a peaty whisky haha
  9. Sushi for pre show snacks, dark choccy for after show snacks
  10. A sound gal! Because the music industry could always use more femme peeps

The plug

My debut single Chasing The Sun came out Nov 21, and I don’t have any shows on the horizon for the minute. Will be spending the first few months of next year recording demos for an EP launch wahoo!

MY DREAM RIDER – WOMEN OF SOUL

Australia’s premier collective of female-identifying artists Women of Soul, is proud to release their full-length LP Feel Good, released today on House of Valerie Joan. Featuring more than 25 creatives, the album contains contributions from artists such as Kylie Auldist, Stella Angelico, Thndo, Maria Moles, Monique diMattina, Vanessa Perica, Kathleen Halloran, Tamara Murphy and many more. With Chelsea Wilson as executive producer and Anna Laverty as producer and engineer, the album was entirely composed, recorded, performed and produced by an all-female team, a rare feat in the Australian music industry.

Carla Troiano from the collective has put together her dream rider.  Carla is Melbourne’s most glamorous soul chanteuse. The front woman of one of Australia’s  leading funk/soul bands Mayfield, and a core member of the Women of Soul Collective, she is currently working on her solo debut LP. On Women of Soul’s “Feel Good” Carla sings two tracks; the soaring soul ballad ‘Not Ready To Say Goodbye’ and ‘I’m On It’, a sassy disco anthem.

  1. Green Velvet couches – It’s giving Mariah Carey Energy in a green room!
  2. Unlimited Natural Oysters – They are my absolute favourite! I can never have enough
  3. A wall of gold mirrors floor to ceiling- I am obsessed with vintage gold florentine Italian gold mirrors at the moment. They give me queen energy!
  4. Grey goose! It’s my favourite drink. I’m not really a champagne kinda gal
  5. A glam station, with hollywood mirrors and pink fluffy chairs to glam up in before a show for me and my team. With the best hair and make up artists from all over the world.
  6. Pizza and pasta flown in from Italy (because, why not!) for after the show. She loves her carbs.
  7. A Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Gucci, Prada wardrobe on hand and custom designed costumes from each designer
  8. Fairy lights all over the green room with custom lighting.
  9. A massage therapist on hand for before and after the show.
  10. Nergonis, Gin Martinis, and it would be really RAD to have Prince, Aretha, MJ & Chaka Khan to play us a private show, after the show for our after party while we eat pizza and pasta!! Haha
